Coil & Carve

This is a coil and carve jar. I made this by rolling out coils and then I slip and scored them together. Every 3-4 coils, I would smooth it out and make a more solid structure. After it was evenly built up I smoothed all the rough edges out, and rounded out the rim so it wasn't sharp. Next, I used a carving tool to create wide cut out diagonal lines. When the clay dried, I glazed it with 3 coats of 3 different glaze colors, and I am happy with the result. If I could change one thing about this piece it would be to smooth the sides out more since there are some sharp parts. I chose to make it look this way because I envisioned the glazes to blend together better. That combined with the lines was initially going to give off this cool ombré effect, however I am still happy with the way it turned out. My work shows that I learned to perfect the clay before it dries because once it's dry I can't change much.
