self portrait

1. The subject of this creation is me, it is set in my bedroom with a plain wall in the background to have the portrait the main focal point of this piece. To make this artwork, I started by using graphite, like most other times. Next I used charcoal and ink to darken and add more detail to it. I chose to make my self portrait this way because I only wanted to show half of me, and I wanted the striped shirt to add detail that wasn't in the background or on the rest of me.

2. In this artwork, I used line through my hair and on my shirt and in parts of my face. I blended the charcoal with my fingers and I used shading to help the artwork to be more realistic. My project evolved because I shaded my neck and other parts of the piece to have it match the photo better.

3. The meaning behind this artwork is to show ourselves and focus on a different aspect of art we don't always pay as much attention to. This project relates to my life because it's me and I wanted to do a drawing that showed no emotion and only showed half of my face, to leave the audience with some mystery. If I could change one thing about my art, it would be to have the stripes on my shirt be more proportional and show more movement.
