The assignment for the zentagle value scale was to make a value scale from light grey to a dark black/grey using solely zentangles, which are composed of any composition of lines and dots etc. I was able to make whatever designs I wanted to as long as they showed a contrast of different shades.
What I did first for this was make a one inch border and made 11 different sections to draw in. To start drawing, I began from the outside and worked in. It was easiest for me to do the extremes first—the darkest and lightest ones. I just did some random lines I thought looked good with each other, making sure to darken and widen the lines on the dark side and make light thin lines on the light side to create a great contrast. I tried to leave more empty space for the lighter ones because that made them appear lighter and tried to fill the most space in the dark drawings. It did get harder in the middle because it got tough to slightly differ the shade when it came to the middle ones, especially because it had to be using zentangles, where I couldn't shade at all.
The main reason I did some of these designs was for the sake of shade differentiation, meaning I drew thicker, bolder lines for the dark zentangles and lighter thinner lines for the lighter zentangles. The other reason I did some of these designs was because I thought they fit with adjacent designs to make the composition look good.
