Abstract Shoe Drawing

My assignment was to create an abstract drawing. This abstract drawing could be anything but started from a specific thing. This started with the drawing of a shoe of my choice and three different drawings of that shoe and from there I took various steps, which I'll explain in depth later, including zooming and copying and enlarging and a bit of creativity. The materials I used for this were pencils, colored pencils, and sharpies.

This project started out with three drawings of a shoe of my choice. I sketched these out first and then darkened them when I was confident in there shape, then added a little detail, but not shading because the assignment was to use all contour (solid) lines. The views were the following: front, side, and top. After finishing those three drawings I had to pick one of these three drawings and "zoom" in on a specific area of it, and enlarge that on a separate piece of paper. After doing that I zoomed in on a specific area on that drawing, enlarged it, and repeated that one more time. Then I took the final, zoomed in drawing, and made an abstract piece of work with that, using my creativity to create patterns and shapes.

First, I used pattern to create squares and triangles with red and orange in the bottom left corner. Then I made blue and turquoise circles and semi circles, the

reason I picked blue was because I think it contrasts well with the orange and red. After that I made thick lines by burnishing blue or orange in each corner, to form a sense

of balance. Finally I made stars in the empty space in the middle with either blue or orange pencil.

The reason I started with picking the laces for the area of zooming and cropping was because it had more detail than anywhere else on the shoe. From there I picked the most detailed part of that copy and so on. After that I arrived at the task of making the abstract drawing of the zoomed in part of the shoe. At that point I decided to create a sense of unity, by using just four colors; blue and turquoise, which are related in color, and orange and red which are related as well. After deciding the colors I just put down patterns with the colors that looked good to me. I tried to keep the colors balanced on either side of the page and made patterns that went along with the contour lines of the details of the shoe.
