Mixed media drawing

This assignment was the pen and ink wooden drawing assignment where I created a drawing using ink of wooden figurines. I had to make the figurine in three different random position and draw each once, one vertical, one horizontal, and one diagonal.

I started this drawing by drawing each figure with graphite pencil. Then I outlined each drawing in pen and ink when I was confident in their form. After that I had to incorporate shading of some kind using methods called cross hatching, hatching, and stippling. First I shaded in the diagonal drawing, using hatching on most of the body and some stippling and cross hatching on other parts of it. Then I did the vertical drawing and used hatching for most of the body as well. Finally I did the horizontal drawing which I also used hatching in for the most part and some cross hatching and stippling too. Then I had to do the background which I used mixed media with. I used colored pastels and made some red and green ribbon looking things in the background.

The reason I made the figures with mainly hatching was because I thought it was most effective of the methods and would provide the deepest shading. I made the background with the colored pastels because I felt they would provide good contrast in regards to color when placed behind the black and white figurines.
