Time Capsule Drawings

In this assignment we were required to make four drawings. The four drawings were the following: A hallway, my hand in an interesting position, an object we depend on, and a cropped self portrait. I chose the front hallway of my house, I put my hand in a random interesting position, chose my phone as the object I depend upon regularly, and cropped out half of my face in the self portrait. Although there were some specific subjects, we were able to be creative within those parameters.

To start this project I made the drawing of my self portrait. First I looked in the mirror and tried to replicate the features of my face as well as I could with a light sketch. When I was confident in the form I darkened the lines and shaded some areas of my face. In the second drawing which was of my phone I began by drawing the outline of my phone. When I thought it looked realistic I shaded the screen of the phone and darkened the outline. On the third picture of my hallway I started by creating a point at which all lines would point to, to create an accurate depiction of depth. Then I made the walls of the hallway and the door. After that I made the details like the benches. and staircase. In my last drawing I put my left hand in an interesting position and drew with my right hand. First I made the outline of my hand and wrist and then darkened some of the lines and shaded as well.

The reason I used my phone as the object I depend upon is because it's an object I'm using constantly and always have with me, so it really is an object I always depend upon. I picked that front hallway of my house because it had some interesting objects like the benches and the staircase in the back. The most challenging part of this was making things look realistic. I think it was something I struggled with at first but I got better with every picture. I am most proud of how the hallway turned out. Depth was something we covered last year and I like how I remember how to do things like that. This shows my strengths as a learner because it shows how I learned to be more accurate with each picture, but one of my weaknesses was how I didn't provide as much detail as I could've.
