Assemblage Sculpture

In this project I made an assemblage sculpture. Our whole class made birds, and we could pick any bird we wanted to make. The only requirements for this project was that it would be a bird that was flying. I used newspaper for the body of this assemblage project and then I covered it with paper paint samples. I used some wire to attach the wings and also to make the feet. The bird I made was a blue jay.

To begin this project I needed to select a bird. I picked a blue jay. Then I had to make the body of the bird. I rolled up newspaper and taped it together until I thought the form of the newspaper was like the form of the body of the bird. Then I had to cut out cardboard to make the tail and both wings of the bird. Then I started to use the paper paint samples to create the feathers of the bird. I used a picture of a blue jay from the Internet to base the colors of the blue jay off of. I tired to replicate each shade of blue with the paper paint samples on the wings, body, tail, and head. Once I had glued the paper paint samples on the wings and tail, I glued those onto the body of the bird. After that I added the paper paint samples to the body of the bird, and the head. Lastly, I made the feet, which I made out of wire.

The reason I made this bird a blue jay was that I see blue jays at my grandmothers house sometimes. My grandmother has a lot of bird feeders and blue jays are some of my favorite birds to see. Also blue jays are my favorite color, so that was another reason I made the bird a blue jay.
