The assignment for the negative space drawings was to make one negative space drawing of my hand and another of an animal figurine. Negative space drawings are drawings consisting of only the negative space, or outlines of the drawings so there is no detail inside the shape drawn. For my hand I had to hold my hand in a certain position, creating negative space (the empty space between my fingers) so I could demonstrate my understanding of negative space. I had to do the same for the animal figures, I placed them in a way that I created negative space with them.
For the first drawing shown, I drew a cow on top of another cow. What I did was stack the cow figurine on the other one and took a viewfinder--a tool that is used to zoom and crop an image to focus on one area--and picked the legs of the cow to zoom in one and drew the outline of the cow legs and stomach. When I was confident in the shape I darkened the lines with a pencil. For the second drawing, I made my hand into a position creating negative space and drew the outline of my hand. From there I Darkened the lines and shaded a little bit around them to show where the negative space is.
The reason why I picked the leg area of the cow was because it showed the most negative space--had the most holes and lines to draw. By picking that area I could include more negative space lines in my drawing. Also it took up the most possible space in the image, leaving out unnecessary empty space. The reason why I put my hand in that position was the same--it showed good negative space.
