¡Hola y bienvenidos a la clase de español!
My name is Tamara Dubis and I will be your Spanish teacher this year. I am from Valencia, Venezuela, where I lived many years before coming to the U.S in 2010. I am an Attorney licensed to practice in Venezuela with an LLM in International Law (Masters of Law) at Stetson University College of Law. I am very passionate about the world and different cultures. I moved to Maine in the summer of 2021 and started this wonderful journey of teaching my language and sharing my love and passion for different cultures with my students in the classroom. I enjoy going to the beach, traveling, cooking and reading. I am excited to learn more about you and what are you passionate about.
Why should you learn Spanish?
Spanish is the world's second most spoken language, allowing you to communicate with almost 600 million people around the world. Learning Spanish can open you up to experience a rich culture where you can enjoy great food, books, films, travel experiences and music. Studying Spanish can actually help you improve your English Grammar! Not to forget the career advancement benefits and the enhanced cognitive skills that comes along having a bilingual brain, check the video below.
Marshwood High School does not have a World Language requirement, but if you have post secondary plans, you probably need to study a World Language. Most 4 year colleges and universities require AT LEAST 2 years of a World Language. That means that you need to complete a level 2 course. Many competitive colleges and universities want 3-4 years. Some military posts and positions require knowledge of a second language, and an understanding of other cultures and cultural differences is always helpful. Finally, the job market is extremely competitive. Proficiency in another language makes an applicant much more desirable, in many fields, particularly in health and human resources, business, politics and marketing.
