Plagiarism Faculty Resources
As a faculty member, you will likely encounter cases of suspected plagiarism at some point in your teaching career. We've compiled helpful resources from around the University to provide you with the information you need. Our goal is to both heighten awareness of what constitutes plagiarism as well as how you can respond to the students, what options are available, etc. so that we can all help students better understand what it is and how to avoid it. If you have questions about how or when to use plagiarism reporting, please contact your departmental leadership team.
Report plagiarism or remediation using the Plagiarism/Remediation Reporting Form*

Course syllabi inform students that the use of third-party websites is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct. Due to an increase in student usage of third-party cheating websites such as Coursehero the Code of Student Conduct has been updated to specify that cheating includes directly or indirectly sharing their work by posting it to a third-party website.
In addition, students who are dismissed due to the usage of such third-party websites will have language added to their transcript indicating such, including the revocation of degrees for students whose cheating is discovered after a degree was conferred.

The Plagiarism Reporting Process for Faculty
Instructors have the choice to issue a full plagiarism charge or remediation; please review the process below.
Remediation
If the instructor chooses to give the student the opportunity to resubmit their assignment, students should be sent the Academic Integrity Remediation Student Guide.
The student must complete the Academic Integrity Module and return the assessment score (80% or higher) to the instructor.
If the student passes the assessment, then the student may revise and resubmit the assignment for partial credit (deduction in points must be applied based on faculty judgment; if necessary, consult with your academic chair).
After the assessment result (80% or higher) and revised work is submitted to the dropbox, the instructor will then submit the remediation assessment document through the plagiarism process and chooses "plagiarism remediation".
If the student does not return the remediation assessment score and revised work, the 0 remains in the gradebook, and the instructor will submit a full plagiarism charge along with the Turnitin report and/or other supporting documentation.
Full Plagiarism Charge
The instructor will submit the plagiarism charge and the TII report through the plagiarism process and select "plagiarism violation."
The instructor issues a 0 for the assignment and notifies the student.
If the Provost's Office determines a second or third offense, they will work with the Registrar to ensure the course is failed or the student is dismissed.
Additional Information
Issuing a 0 grade requires a plagiarism submission at that time for a plagiarism violation. For plagiarism remediation, the instructor should issue a 0 as a placeholder until the remediation requirements are met, or the deadline passes. The instructor should wait until the remediation requirements are met to submit the plagiarism remediation through the reporting process.
The remediation process must be documented through the plagiarism process with the assessment score as documentation.
