CAPA, being an art school, has a diverse and expressive community. Student's fashion is celebrated and praised at this school by staff and peers alike, but what about our staff and teachers? Their fashion sense is just as great as ours and is often underappreciated, I interviewed some of our fashionable staff and teachers at CAPA, and got some of their opinions on fashion and how CAPA has shaped their style.
Ms. Byrd is known at CAPA as a kind and friendly presence, and her fashion sense reflects that, being just as bright and bubbly as she is. “ sometimes I can be classic, sometimes I can be kind of like, artsy-- it's like, whatever my spirit feels for that day. It's like what my vibe is, yeah, but you can always tell, like, where my head space is by my outfit.” Her style is just as colorful as her personality as well, as she says “I'm so inspired by so many different not necessarily anyone's style, but color. Yeah, I like mixing different color combos that sometimes you wouldn't normally see together” She comments on the community at CAPA, saying “ CAPA is a place that not only students can come here and kind of like be themselves when it comes to their personal style, and kind of even create their own brand, yeah, here, but I feel like staff can do the same thing--I'm often inspired by the style of the students.”
Mrs. Citron provides and warm and inviting space at CAPA, she’s poised and confident, but cozy aswell, and you can see that in her style “I get to be more myself. And I think I have sort of a 70s vintage is usually where I lean?” When asked about her style inspiration, she recalls the stars of her childhood “I was your age, and at the dawn of the supermodel-like the, Christy Turlington and Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. So that's huge for me.” but that blends with the more whimsical style of the ’70s, she remarks “I, like a lot of 70s, like a Carly Simmons and Joni Mitchell, yeah, a Jane Birkin. Like, love that vibe.” The community is an inspiration too, she speaks on the students at CAPA, “I think it's beautiful. I love it, and I find it inspirational.”
Ipp is quite professional and sharp, while still being laid back and amiable, his style is very praised at CAPA for being a perfect blend of the two “think it's a cross between the fact that I grew up going to a school for boys where I had to wear a uniform every day, and also, like the sort of punk rock and like the musician that I became.-- also think a lot of it was influenced by the fact that my father would read GQ when I was a kid” He says CAPA students are very conscious of fashion “t was the only place where I've ever been where students make a comment about, like, what you wear--they're sort of enthusiastic about the way teachers present themselves.” he says not just the students, but the overall community and environment of CAPA is an influence “it's almost like a person is like a canvas in their own way. And like, what, whatever they wear--becomes like their expression of themselves. So, yeah, I think that the students here are a big influence on each other, the staff, the culture, the building, is a big influence”
