Study of Recipes - Scarlett Munive

The United States of America is recognized to be one of the most diverse in ethnic groups. Although we celebrate our traditions,there is one aspect that connects our families and ancestors, recipes. We will be contributing to recipes that are often used in special holidays with CAPA students. The interviews of students can gather why certain ingredients are used and impact the holiday experience. 

We begin with a sophomore visual artist student, Maliyah McNeli. Maliyah says, “I don’t know that many ingredients—well, recipes that are made in my half-Dominican family, but all I can say is that recipes  are important because they help others survive. Knowing how to cook is an essential thing and honestly, it gives a lot of history to your ancestors. It tells others how creative your ancestors were to use these ingredients to make these bomb foods.” Maliyah McNeli doesn’t provide a significant answer on what recipes are used in her household, but she acknowledges the importance of them. Summarizing on how recipes can provide help and reassurance that others aren’t alone in discovering and trying out new things in this world.

 Junior vocalist student, Mia Perez. In the video, Mia Perez says, “I mean, Rice, specifically rice is so important to the Hispanic community. And you mean tacos, I’m not trying to stereotype anything but honest foods or recipes in general bring people together.”  Mia Perez proceeds to tell that recipes are important, not because they only bring each other but because the ingredients can improve someone’s creativity.

The importance of this input  is how food impacts our lives. How Recipes are passed down from generation to generation,can be a way to preserve cultural heritage and traditions. It’s wonderful to know that these recipes can provide inspiration to others and have others expand their knowledge. Foods aren’t just meals that are simply made to be consumed, but it's filled with the hands of others. Past or present. Who gathered today to create these ingredients so others can share their passion and love to family members, friends, and even coworkers
