The Road to AOTY

The Grammys have been an annual award show and one of the biggest nights for music since their debut in 1959. They’re held to show recognition and reward albums, artists on the rise, and songs that have held popularity all year and changed the scene of music. This year, they were held on the second of February and one particular artist made history that night.
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles has been in the music industry since the 1990s. She’s won almost every award one can think of at The Grammys, but she hadn't won Album of the Year until this year. The award is a highly sought after one, and Knowles became just the fourth black woman to win it. Considering the show took place in Black History Month makes this an extra special win. The last time a black woman won the award was over 20 years ago and it feels right for Beyoncé to break the streak. Knowles already made history at the 2023 Grammys, becoming the most awarded artist ever, and she did it again this year adding a thirty-fifth award to her collection, including the highly sought-after Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter.
When her name was called that night, her mouth dropped in shock and tears welled in her eyes. Her voice was choked up as she gave a speech on the stage, and artists looked up in awe. It may just seem like an award or another shiny plaque for Beyoncé to add to her overflowing collection. However, it’s not just about Knowles’ success, it’s about black women’s success and showing them that even if it takes twenty five years for a black woman to win, it can and will happen.
