Elements of Composition
Space - refers to a number of components including the formations and positions used throughout the dance, the use of locomotor and non-locomotor movements, and levels (high, medium and low).
Rhythm and Timing - All movements encompass time. Encourage students to explore how timing is used in their piece of music and reflect this in their movements. For example a song with notes that are long in duration may have movements that are held or smooth, whilst a fast tempo song with notes short in duration may have quick changing movements on the beat.
Dynamics - Dynamics refers to the change in movements. Dynamics are used to emphasise certain counts or lyrics in the song. Beat 1 is the most accented beat and students are encouraged to reflect this though your movements.
Relationships - relationships refer to the way the body relates to individuals, groups and objects, and stimuli such as the music. The group's primary focus should be to ensure that your movements reflect the tone of the music, and that they perform as a unit in your dance presentation.
Following the 7PDHPE Dance Performance Criteria and working in a small group, choreograph a dance presentation and present it to the class.
This task forms part of your practical assessment mark for 7PDH Task 4 2023
As you develop your dance, your group may like to record your rehearsals and review it for the following factors:
The elements of composition that are to be included in your dance (Space, Timing, Dynamics, Relationships)
The elements of performance (staying together, confidence, expression, entertainment)
The need for all group members to participate effectively and contribute choreography
The duration of the Dance - aiming for 1 minute and over
You might like to use the Move and Groove - Dance Practise Google Slides to record your progress.
