Refer to the Annotating a PDF Instructions as a guide Or insert a drawing in Google Docs
Download an image of a newborn and save with the Y Chart
Compare and contrast your image of a Newborn with your annotated Y Chart features.
As a class, discuss the features of a newborn - think about a newborn just minutes old, describe what the baby might look like.
In your 9CS_newborn shared Google Folder, create a Google Doc titled, Characteristics of Newborns

LI: We will be able to name tests performed on newborns
Newborn babies don't have the ability to control their temperature well, so it's very important that they be kept warm and dry. Your practitioner will clamp the umbilical cord in two places and then cut between the two clamps. They will then collect a tube of blood from the cord to check your baby's blood type and may use it for other tests as well.
In pairs, complete the worksheet ‘Baby Ava’s First Days’ to provide reasons for the newborn’s feature
View the video of the APGAR test, developed in 1952 by anaesthesiologist Virginia Apgar to assess/evaluate the condition of the baby at birth.
In your 9CS_newborn shared Google Folder, create a Google Doc titled, Screening Tests.
Using the video and links below:
Create an acrostic to outline the steps of the APGAR test.
Research and save a table that shows the scale or rating for each sign of the APGAR Test.
In your Google Doc titled, Screening Tests, create an Inquiry Chart (Table) to outline the other newborn screening tests carried out on babies. The chart should include the following headings, and can be presented in various visual ways.
Name of screening test
What to expect
Why it’s done
