Predict future developments in Australian Sport
Students create a new Google Doc titled Covid-19 Impact on Sport and save this in their Google Drive Folder
Accessing via the 10PASS Google Site, students read the article on How COVID-19 has changed the future of sport in Australia and complete an SQ3R on the document
SQ3R stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review.
Survey - Scan the piece of writing to establish its purpose and get the main ideas. Look for titles, headings, pictures, questions, bold or italicised print, introduction and conclusion.
Question - Write questions to aid comprehension. Students turn main headings and pictures into questions.
Read - Search for the answers to the questions and make a series of notes.
Recite - Students using their notes answer the questions in their own words (this can be in the form of a mind map).
Review - Check all questions are answered and read over the answers for understanding.
Students Make a copy of Student - Current and Future Perspectives on Sport in Australia Google Slides, and save this into their Google Drive Folder
Fill in the answers as the teacher progresses through and discusses the slides
Write notes on the History of the Olympic Games from the YouTube Video - A Strange History of the Olympic Games
Investigate how sports are added to the Olympic Games
As directed by the teacher, students form groups of 2-4 and complete the following activity:
In groups of 2-4, select a Sport that you would like to see as part of the Olympic Games (summer or winter) and create a proposal for its inclusion for 2024 (the information on the previous slide will be helpful)
You can choose to present your proposal via:
- Google Slides
- Google Docs
- an iMovie
Students present their proposal to the class
Students ask questions around:
- performance
- professionalism
- spectator enjoyment
- safety
- legal liabilities spectator and player behaviour
