This module evaluates the role technology plays in physical activity and sport. Students assess the impact technology has had on sport and the ethical implications technology can have on access and equity for participants and performers.
All work and downloaded content for this term MUST be saved into this new Unit 3 folder. Follow the instructions below.
Follow the steps in this procedure to create and share your work folder:
Log into your Google Drive
Click into your main 9 PASS Folder
Click New - Folder
Create a new folder named - surname_unit 3
Working in pairs, students are to use the iMovie application to create a video presentation that shows how a selected piece of sports equipment has evolved over time and analyses how this improved equipment has influenced sports performance.
Refer to the task guidelines and marking criteria.

Success Criteria:
Identify ways technology is used in sport
Outline the possible impacts of the application of technology in sport
Analyse the contributions of technology to performance in sport

Using Lucid Chart or other application, create a mind map to brainstorm the ways technology has been used to enhance performance in sport

As a class, review and discuss the technology contributions. Add to your mind map any uses of technology not yet included.
In your 9PASS Google Folder, create a new Google Doc, titled Technology and Sport. Complete a PMI table with three columns in their document on the use or contributions of technology to sport.
Plus: Write the positives related to the uses or contributions of technology to performance in sport
Minus: Write any negatives related to the use of technology in sport
Interesting: List any interesting or fun features related to the use or contribution of technology to sport
Continuing in your Technology and Sport document and using the Internet, complete the following activities to analyse the contribution of technology to a selected sport:
Select a sport of their choice and provide one example of how technology has impacted on each of the three areas:
Performance
Participation
Spectating
Select a different example for each area eg:
DRS in Cricket
Referee bunker in NRL
Goal line cameras in Soccer and AFL
GPS tracking for players in AFL, Soccer and NRL
Touchpads for Swimming
Provide details about each of the examples you have selected including:
A photo or picture of the technology (if applicable)
Description of the technology – what it is, what it does.
Availability and cost to general public
How it has enhanced performance, participation or spectating for elite athletes or the general population
Your teacher will provide feedback via the Google Share folders or Google Classroom

Athletes are paid millions of dollars by sponsors to be the face of their company or to sell a product, usually when they are performing well in their sport. Australian pro surfer Sally Fitzgibbons was sponsored by Roxy, Usain Bolt is sponsored by Puma and Serena Williams is sponsored by Nike.
Imagine you are an up and coming athlete in the sport you love. Would you be tempted to take a performance enhancing drug in order to be a more successful athlete and possibly secure a lucrative sponsorship deal? Why or why not? Present your case using iMovie.
