May 2024

Dear JH & HS Tiger Families:

As we approach the final weeks of the 2023-2024 academic year, there is still a flurry of activity and excitement at Newton Falls Junior High and High School. We have much to celebrate this month as we begin the countdown to summer break!

First and foremost, we are incredibly proud to announce that last month Newton Falls Junior High and High School received the PURPLE STAR AWARD from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for our commitment to providing supports and resources to students in military families. We are endlessly grateful for our military families in our school and community and thank ODEW for this prestigious designation!

We also want to recognize Harley Pendleton and Ella Marquette as our High School and Junior High Students of the Month for May. Their outstanding achievements are emblematic of the excellence we cultivate at Newton Falls. Additionally, we congratulate the students who earned national honors from the United Nations Association for their impactful community service endeavors. They represent the best of global citizenship!

Our students continue making memories outside of the classroom as well. We had an enchanted evening at this year's Prom, held on May 3rd at Vinny's at Roby Lee's. Congratulations to Prom King Gage Phares and Queen Logan Elliott! Our 6th graders are currently exploring our nation's capital on their class trip to Washington D.C. from May 8th-12th, coordinated by Mrs. Giuliano. We appreciate her efforts as well as thank our staff members and parent chaperones for attending the trip and ensuring our Tigers fun and safety.

The coming weeks are packed with must-see events. The talents of our music students will be on full display at the 6th-12th Grade Band Concert on May 14th and Choir Concert on May 13th, both at 6:30pm in our auditorium. Prospective Tigerettes should mark their calendars for clinics on May 14th and 15th from 2:45-4:45pm, with tryouts on May 17th. Cheer Clinics for students currently in grades 6-11 (grades 7-12 for next year) interested in trying out for the 24-25 cheer season will take place on May 29th and 30th in the HS gym from 3-5 PM. Tryouts will take place in the HS Gym on May 31st from 2-5 PM.

And of course, we will bid farewell to our graduating Class of 2024 at the Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 19th at 3pm in the Gene Zorn Gymnasium.

Ensuring our students' well-being is paramount, which is why we urge all families to take advantage of the One Health Ohio Student Health Clinic visiting our high school on May 29th from 8am-3pm. This comprehensive, no-cost clinic provides sports physicals, vaccinations, health screenings and more - an incredible opportunity to start summer break on a healthy note.  Consent forms are due by Monday, May 20th and have already been distributed to students. Please email Principal Rankin at rankinr@nfschools.org or School Nurse Rhonda Knoske at knosker@nfschools.org with any questions.

Our students have worked diligently throughout state testing season. With our educators' excellent guidance, we are confident their efforts will yield impressive results. Parents/guardians will be notified of their child's state testing results by June 30th.

The last day for students is May 30th. Please be on the lookout for our Parent Newsletter: Summer Edition that will feature suggested summer reading lists, activities, camps, and credit recovery information for those interested.

We also extend our praise to Mr. Hill's art students who showcased their immense talents at the Trumbull County Art Show, earning well-deserved accolades. Nicholas Lampman earned 2nd place in the 3-D Category with his wheel-thrown "Drops of Jupiter" sugar and creamer set. Ivy Huang won 3rd place award in the 3-D Category with her wheel-thrown "Single Serve Bluebonnet Butterfish."

This has truly been a year marked by achievement after achievement. As the school year nears its close, we appreciate all your support of our students and staff. We are committed to creating a partnership between our school and our Tiger families so that every child can be successful and achieve their highest potential. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything or have questions/concerns. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Rankin, Principal & Mr. Bauman, Assistant Principal

We want to emphasize to all of our Tiger families that if you find yourself lacking resources and are in need of help, please do not hesitate to reach out. Please email rankinr@nfschools.org if you ever need additional support and we will utilize all our resources available to take care of our Tiger families!
