March 2023

Dear JH & HS Tiger Families:

Basketball season may be over for our Tiger families, but March Madness is kicking off in full swing! Students are feeling antsy from being inside all winter and are anxiously awaiting for the spring weather to hit! Our baseball, softball, and track athletes are eager to get their seasons started and have already begun their initial practices. Teachers are winding down the 3rd grading period with report card grades posted on March 10th, 2023 and distributed to students on March 17th, 2023. Our school counselors have begun working on course selection sheets for next school year and we will begin scheduling soon for the 23-24 school year shortly!

The month of February featured the conclusion of our basketball seasons, with each of our teams enjoying immense success. Varsity Boys Coach Roy Sembach earned his 500th career win this season and Varsity Girls Coach Mark Baker earned his 300th career win also! Congratulations to Coach Sembach, Coach Baker, and to our basketball athletes for their many successes this season.

We are preparing for the annual National Honor Society induction which will take place on March 24. At the end of the month, a select group of our Seniors will be participating in the Trumbull County Civics Day event where students get to shadow community leaders for the day and learn about the importance of civic responsibility and public service. Our Seniors attending this year will be Holden Hanzel, Kaylee Blom, Natalee Albert, Bryce Barnhart, and Emily Nutter.

We would like to congratulate the delegates who have been chosen as representatives for Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State which will take place this summer: Nick Lampman, Zander Miller, Nick Moss, Alex Stinson, Zach Stinson, Isaac Underwood; Lauren Bervish, Katrina Braun, Danielle Drake, Caitlynn Grimm, Ivy Huang, and Jordan Maffitt. This program, established by the American Legion of Ohio, provides an educational and leadership program that exposes young men and women to the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of good citizenship. Buckeye Boys State will take place at Miami University and Buckeye Girls State will take place at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. For this school year, the American Legion of Newton Falls, Post 236, will be sponsoring this experience for our students. We are very appreciative to the American Legion Post 236 for providing this opportunity for our students!

On March 3rd, there will be a signing day for the college commitments of our student-athletes Drew Montgomery, Nick Wright, Brian Litz, Ashlie Harvey, and Cam Brainard who will all be continuing their athletic talents at the collegiate level. Congrats to these talented and dedicated student athletes on your accomplishments!

We also want to share how incredibly proud we are of TCTC students Shelby Fowler and Danika Rogers for participating in the 2023 Regional SkillsUSA Competition. Both Shelby and Danika will advance to the SkillsUSA State Competition in April and we wish them the best of luck!

We are excitedly anticipating our Band and Choir Concert which will take place on March 21st at 7 PM in the HS auditorium in honor of Music in our Schools Month. We hope to see you there!

The Junior High/High School PTO is currently planning a dance for Junior High students which will take place at the school on April 29th. More details will come soon!

Looking ahead to the months of April and May, we will begin our state testing season with ELA starting the week of April 17th; Science/Math/Government will start the week of April 24th, and finally US History will start the week of May 8. The YSU English Festival is slated for April 19th and 20th with Mrs. Schlaubach, Mr. Szeljack, and Miss Muccio.

We have tentatively scheduled Senior Service Day for May 1st and are making preparations for the Class of 2023 Commencement Ceremony to take place in the newly renovated Gene Zorn Gymnasium on May 21st at 3 PM.

We look forward to an eventful and busy spring season in the upcoming months as we wind down the school year on a positive note!

Parent Tip: TikTok Family Pairing!

Parenting a teen’s digital life can be daunting, which is why we share meaningful ways to set guardrails with your teens on TikTok and other social media sites.

TikTok's Family Pairing features let parents link their TikTok account to their teen’s to enable a variety of content and privacy settings. Even without Family Pairing enabled, parents can help their teens enable the app’s Screen Time offerings, including Daily Screen Time and Restricted Mode, which are protected by a passcode set by the parent or guardian.
