December 2023
Dear JH & HS Tiger Families:
We hope everyone enjoyed their Fall Break last month! As we gear up for the final stretch of 2023, we have several important announcements to share with our parents and school community.
We would first like to thank Mr. Hill's 7th grade Art students (Judge Fields, Leah Sait, Carter Drake, Aleigha Lade, Bella Capasso, Caleb Klitz, Austynn Drake, and Lilja Costa for helping to paint all of the ornaments for the City's tree downtown! All of these students volunteered their time to help paint these ornaments and will receive a proclamation from City Manager Priddy for their efforts. Thank you to these talented students!
We also would like to acknowledge the efforts of JJ Maffitt, Chad Stiffler, and Piper Johanessmeier for their efforts to paint a snow plow for this year's ODOT "Paint the Plow" competition. They did a fantastic job and we are extremely proud to represent Newton Falls in this competition!
We are making progress in our 2nd quarter and interim grades will be available after 12/1. Please make sure to access your child's grades in our Parent Portal if you would like access to their progress 24/7.
Mr. Gross and our Chess Team are asking asking for any players ages 8-17 who would like to participate in the 2023 Newton Falls Public Library Chess Tournament to sign up using the form HERE. The tournament will be held at the NF Public Library on 12/22 starting at 10 AM and is a great opportunity for our young chess players to get involved in the game!
Prep Bowl, an academic competition where teams of students compete to answer questions on a variety of topics like Literature, History, Science, Art, Music, Mythology, Religion, Philosophy, Social Science, Geography, Current Events, and Pop Culture, is asking for interested students! Students in the High School can sign up with Mr. Szeljack and students in the 7th and 8th grade can sign up with Mr. Hill. Practices take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 3:45 PM. The first meet is on Saturday, December 2nd.
Our talented musicians in grades 6-12 will hold a band and choir concert on December 20th in the HS auditorium. Students should arrive by 6 PM and the performances will begin at 6:30 PM.
We still have a few seats available for our after-school Junior High program that is sponsored and run by Alta Care. If you are interested in signing up your student, please email Mrs. Rankin at rankinr@nfschools.org.
We will be administering the Pride Survey to students in grades 6-12 that addresses bullying, safety, mental health, and violence. This survey is voluntary and you can read more about it HERE. If you choose to opt your child out of this survey, please email Mrs. Rankin at rankinr@nfschools.org by December 15th.
We would like to express our appreciation for those who attended our Girls and Boys Basketball Foundation Games in honor of Mrs. Marianne Donley, HS Biology teacher and National Honor Society adviser. Mrs. Donley is a critical part of our school community and we appreciate all of the support surrounding her as she fights against ovarian cancer. Thank you all!
Lastly, we want to emphasize to all of our Tiger families that if you find yourself lacking resources and are in need of help, especially as the cold months and holidays come upon us, please do not hesitate to reach out. If your children need winter coats, warmer clothes, better shoes, or you need help with groceries and food, we are here to help. There's zero judgment--it takes a village to raise a child and we at Newton Falls Junior High and High School are part of your village. Please email rankinr@nfschools.org if you ever need additional support and we will utilize all our resources to take care of our Tiger families!
We are committed to creating a partnership between our school and our Tiger families so that every child can be successful and achieve their highest potential. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything or have questions/concerns. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rankin, Principal & Mr. Bauman, Assistant Principal
