April 2023
April 2023
Dear JH & HS Tiger Families:
Spring is in the air and we have hit the ground running for our final grading period of the 22-23 school year! It's incredibly hard to believe that in a few short weeks the school year will be over and we will all be planning our summer fun!
Our Seniors are well underway planning and preparing for their upcoming graduation and all the festivities that accompany the Senior Class. If you haven't checked it out yet, please click HERE to view Mrs. Rankin's Senior Newsletter which has important information relating to senior exams, graduation rehearsal, etc. Please make sure to check it out!
April is known as the National Month of the Military Child and in honor of this, we've selected two outstanding military children for our Students of the Month: William Medved (HS) and Rileigh Roscoe (JH). This month we celebrate our military students and families as we express our appreciation for their dedication not only to our school, but also our country!
Teachers are gearing up for state testing season which will begin in the JH/HS during the week of April 17. Please see the tentative testing schedule below:
Week of April 17: ELA
Week of April 24: Science, Math, Government
Week of May 8: US Studies
During testing time, it's especially important that students get plenty of sleep, maintain good attendance so they can complete their state assessments, and start the day by eating a healthy breakfast to get their brains ready for learning. This can also be a stressful time for students so please reassure them to try their best and feel free to reach out to our guidance department if you need further assistance!
Looking towards the end of the month, our Juniors and Seniors attending Prom will be taking a field trip to Kent State University to participate in the "None Under 21" event which warns against the dangers of distracted/impaired driving. While always an important message, this is especially critical to remind students of as we enter the time of year for Prom and Graduation festivities. Our JH/HS PTO will be providing our Juniors and Seniors with lunch during this field trip and we are very appreciative to the PTO for doing this!
The PTO is also planning a dance for students in grades 6-8 for April 29th, "Paris at Night." The dance will be held in the JH/HS Commons and tickets are $15 per person. If you are interested in getting involved with our JH/HS PTO, please email jhhspto@nfschools.org! This is the first year of the JH/HS PTO and we are so grateful for all of their contributions this school year!
Baseball, Softball, and Track have been off to a great start so far despite some early weather complications! The Varsity Baseball team is participating in the Mingo Bay Classic Spring Break tournament in Myrtle Beach during the first week of April. We wish them safe travels and success in the sunny state of South Carolina!
We'd also like to give a warm welcome to our new School Resource Officer, Deputy Joe Denvir from the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office. We are very grateful to the NFPD for the diligent work they did while providing us with resource officers and we look forward to a strong partnership with the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office.
We want to thank everyone for their continued support of our many efforts here at Newton Falls Junior High and High School!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rankin, Principal & Mr. Bauman, Assistant Principal
