February 2023
Dear JH & HS Tiger Families:
It's hard to believe that we are already halfway through the month of February! Our Winter athletics are winding down after enjoying another successful round of basketball seasons for both the Junior High and JV/Varsity programs. We are incredibly proud of our Girls' Varsity Basketball Coach Mark Baker who earned his 300th career win this season with the Lady Tigers. We also want to extend a huge congratulations to Coach Sembach of the Boys' Varsity team earned his 500th career win this season!
Last month we inducted our first class into the Newton Falls Athletic Hall of Fame and commemorated the event with an awards ceremony and reception in addition to acknowledgement at the Varsity Boys' Game against Champion. Newton Falls legends including Gerald Lenarcic, Jack Kucek, Gene Zorn, Reid Lamport, Joseph Ries, James Heber, George Harnichar, Harry Pontius, Robert Shaulis, and Earnie Shavers comprised the inductees for the Class of 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame. Congratulations to the Hall of Fame inductees and their families!
In early February, we welcomed back the tradition of the "Tinsel Ball" in grades 9-12. Mrs. Reynolds and HS Student Council planned this Winter semi-formal dance and the students had a fantastic time. Our amazing JH/HS PTO members are currently planning a dance for our Junior High students, to be announced at a future date soon.
Our Chess Club season has concluded its first season and we are incredibly thrilled with the success that Mr. Gross created with this extra-curricular activity for our students. We look forward to continuing to build upon the success of Chess Club for future school years!
An important event that we have coming up is the National Honor Society induction which will take place on March 24. Our National Honor Society is also helping to collaboratively plan the community Easter Egg Hunt along with the City of Newton Falls. Please come out and join us on April 1st at noon for the community Easter Egg Hunt!
We are also gearing up to being preparing for our Spring events--including state testing, prom, and graduation. We are preparing course selection sheets to begin scheduling for next year. Spring Sports sign ups have been emailed to all students. Please have your child check their school emails and sign up using the Google Form for any sport they want to participate in. There will be an informational Track Parent Meeting on Friday, February 24th at 6:30 PM for any parents of students in grades 7-12 intent on participating.
The end of the school year will be here before we know it!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rankin, Principal & Mr. Bauman, Assistant Principal
