March 2024
March 2024
Dear JH & HS Tiger Families:
Spring is in the air and the Tigers are ready for some sunshine! We have several important events taking place during the month of March that we'd love to share with you!
The JH/HS just wrapped up "Say Something Week," a week dedicated to celebrating the upstanders and trusted adults in the building that help to keep our school safe and secure. Through the efforts of our National Honor Society members, students engaged in reflective activities throughout the week to help reinforce the importance of speaking up for what is right and reporting information to trusted individuals. Last month, our National Honor Society students participated in "Right to Read Week" by traveling over to the ES/MS and guest-reading to various classrooms. Our National Honor Society students are currently in preparations for their newest induction ceremony which will take place on March 15.
We are in the beginning stages of scheduling classes for students for the 24-25 school year. Your child must have a parent signature on their course sheet to schedule classes so please keep an eye out for that to come home!
The end of the 3rd grading period is March 22nd, 2024.
During the month of March, we are collecting unopened boxes of cereal to prepare for our first annual Cereal Run that will take place on April 2. Donations can be dropped off to any of the district offices and the donations will be used to stock our student food pantries. We will broadcast our "Cereal Run" on April 2 to the community!
We are also collecting individually wrapped candy donations until Wednesday March 20th for the 1st annual Shara Sullivan Easter Egg Hunt that will take place on March 30th at noon at Arlington Field. The homeroom class that brings in the most candy donations will receive a pizza party! This event is planned and hosted by Newton Falls Schools and the City of Newton Falls Community Services and Activities Ad Hoc Committee, as well as Tiny Tots Daycare.
Our Junior High Student Council members are also collecting donations of plastic bags for their recycling challenge. They've collected 511 pounds so far and need 489 more to reach their goal and earn a free bench for the school! Plastic bags can be dropped off to the JH or HS offices anytime during school hours.
Our Winter sports have concluded and we congratulate both the girls' and boys' basketball programs on such successful seasons! Our Spring sports have geared up with softball, baseball, and track starting practices and we look forward to the continued success of our athletic programs both in the Junior High and High School.
We will have a field trip on March 20th to the Pro Football Hall of Fame for students who earned PBIS incentives for Quarter 2. The PBIS teacher team has planned a fun day for these students to show our appreciation for their dedication to being responsible, respectful, and engaged in learning! We are looking forward to it!
Our 6th grade team is gearing up for their upcoming trip to Washington D.C. There will be a parent meeting on Wednesday, March 13th at 6 PM in the Commons for all chaperones and parents going on the 6th grade trip to Washington D.C. Please make sure to attend if your child is going on the trip!
We are excited for four of our Seniors (Caden Short, Danielle Drake, Lauryn Bervish, Caitlynn Grimm) to be participating in this year's Trumbull County Civics Day. These four students will shadow area civic leaders on March 22nd and have a luncheon at DiVieste's Banquet Center. We appreciate the Newton Falls Kiwanis Club's sponsorship of a table for this event!
We also want to issue a reminder to all of our Tiger families that Daylight Savings Time is this weekend! Please don't forget to set your clocks back before bed on Saturday, March 9.
We want to emphasize to all of our Tiger families that if you find yourself lacking resources and are in need of help, especially as the cold months and holidays come upon us, please do not hesitate to reach out. If your children need coats, clothes, better shoes, or you need help with groceries and food, we are here to help. There's zero judgment--it takes a village to raise a child and we at Newton Falls Junior High and High School are part of your village. Please email rankinr@nfschools.org if you ever need additional support and we will utilize all our resources to take care of our Tiger families!
We are committed to creating a partnership between our school and our Tiger families so that every child can be successful and achieve their highest potential. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything or have questions/concerns. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rankin, Principal & Mr. Bauman, Assistant Principal
Congratulations to Ellie Falb and Michael Holesko for earning March's Students of the Month nomination!
Help us stock the student food pantries! Drop off unopened boxes of cereal to any of the district offices through the month of March! We will broadcast our "Cereal Run" on April 2, 2024!
Please join us at Noon at Arlington Field on March 30, 2024 for the 1st annual Shara Sullivan Easter Egg Hunt! We will be collecting candy donations for this event until March 20, 2024.
We are happy to announce that we now have a school app for your phone! This app contains quick links and easier access to important information for the district so you can check your child's grades, lunch menus, email the school, call the attendance line, etc.
Please go to the link HERE from your cell phone and follow the instructions to install it on your home screen (it will open an external browser).
Mr. Kernen, School Guidance Counselor, celebrated his last day and retirement on February 29, 2024. We wish Mr. Kernen nothing but the best and thank him for his many years of service!
This is a reminder that we will have no school on April 8, 2024, due to the solar eclipse.
Have a question? Please email Mrs. Rankin at rankinr@nfschools.org or Mr. Bauman at baumanr@nfschools.org!
