October 2024
Dear JH & HS Tiger Families:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we move into October, we wanted to take a moment to share some of the exciting events and updates happening at Newton Falls Junior High and High School. This Friday, October 4th, we will celebrate our Homecoming Game and Coronation at 6:30 PM. It’s always a special evening as we crown our Homecoming Court during halftime, and I hope to see many of you there. The fun continues with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 5th, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the JH/HS Commons, where students will have a chance to enjoy a night of music and dancing.
This past week has been filled with spirit and energy as students and staff have participated in various dress-up days and challenges during Spirit Week. It’s been a joy to see everyone’s creativity and school pride, and I’m so grateful for the enthusiasm our school community brings to these events. Our annual Homecoming Parade & Community bonfire was an incredible success and we were excited to move the festivities downtown this year. We appreciate everyone that came out for the parade and bonfire! We want to especially thank the individuals who were critical to the success of the evening, including Jared Clonch & Clonch Excavating, our parents/community members who volunteered to drive the floats and Homecoming attendants' cars, Miss Hrdlicka and our incredible Tiger Marching Band & Tigerettes, Cadle Company, Five 4's Distillery, Coach Chastity Davis and our talented cheer squads, the Newton Falls Fire Department, and Mrs. Reynolds for coordinating all of the fun! We also want to give a special shout out to the businesses in town that coordinated with our school to promote Homecoming specials and stay late on the night of the parade! Fieldview Acres, Healthy Treasures, Glass Act, Broken Leaf Cafe, Guns n' Hoses, K & K Market, Zip City Lazer, and Broadstreet Vintage--thank you for your support and participation!
We’ve also introduced a new element to our PBIS program this year by implementing a House System. Students have been divided into four houses—Respect, Responsibility, Engagement, and Integrity—and are attending weekly House meetings, participating in challenges, and earning points for their house through achievements, attendance, and good citizenship. The competition is already heating up, and the winning house at the end of the year will earn a special field trip as a reward. This initiative has brought a great sense of camaraderie to the building, and we are excited to see how it continues to grow.
In addition to these exciting events, our Seniors have been busy planning for their futures. They recently attended Kent’s College and Career Fair as well as the Mahoning Valley Trades Fair, giving them valuable insights into college and career opportunities. Looking ahead, we are hosting our 2nd Annual College, Career, and Trades Fair here at the high school on Thursday, October 10th, from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. This event will be open to the public, so we encourage families and community members to attend.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, October 9th, from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their teachers, and to make it easier for parents, our National Honor Society students will be offering childcare during the conferences. I hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to engage with our staff and stay involved in your child’s education. Please call 330.872.5121 and speak to our building secretaries to schedule a conference. We offer in-person, phone, or Zoom conferences to meet the needs of all our Tiger families!
October also brings National School Lunch Week, which kicks off on October 14th. We have some fun planned for this week, including guest appearances by myself and Mr. Bauman as “guest chefs” in the cafeteria. I’m sure the students will enjoy the surprises in store! The following week of October 21st will be both National Teen Driver Safety Week and National School Bus Safety Week, and we will be focusing on raising awareness of important safety issues. Additionally, don’t forget that the Newton Falls Zombie Run is on Saturday, October 19th! We encourage all families to join in on this fun, community-focused event. For more information, you can visit our school website at www.nfschools.org/nhs.
Finally, the end of the first quarter is approaching quickly, with the final day of the quarter on October 25th. Report cards will be distributed the following week, so be on the lookout for those and take the time to review your child’s progress.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and school community. October is shaping up to be a fun and productive month, and I look forward to all the exciting events and opportunities ahead!
Yours in Education,
Mrs. Rankin, Principal & Mr. Bauman, Assistant Principal
