Removing Backgrounds from Pictures

This is a tool that may seem silly, but the uses with this could be endless.

I would say the most obvious reason would be to insert an image into another image. This could be used for fun little crafts, but it could also be used for projects in school.

An example could be when students are creating a project about a different country, they could insert themselves into those pictures and create their project as if they were there and make it more realistic.

This feature allows teachers and students to be more creative but it also allows you to get the most out of the images you're using. Google has the option to find pictures with a transparent background, but that really cuts back on the amount and quality of images you can use.

Below are two options you can use to remove a background from an image.

Option 1 - Remove Background From Image

This is a free website that does not require signing up. All you have to do is go to the link and upload your picture. This site can be used on a computer, tablet, or phone.

Follow these simple steps to remove a background:

Upload your image.

You can either click the "Upload Image" option, or just drag and drop the picture you want to use.

Choose the image you want.

Download your image.

If you want to customize your design a little more, you can also edit the image by removing more of the background, restoring some of the background, or adding a background to the image.

You complete any of these steps by selecting "Edit" in the top right corner of the image.

Canva is an AWESOME resource, and you get the pro version, for free, as an educator.

Below, I will walk you through the steps of removing the background of an image while using Canva.

Create a Design.

There are many ways to do this, but I think the easiest is to select "Edit photo."

Choose your image.

After you have selected your image, it will ask if you want to edit the photo or use it in a design, I usually just choose to edit.

Remove the background.

In order to see the option to edit the picture, you will have to click on the picture.

From there, choose "Edit image" and then select "BG Remover."

Once you have removed the background, you have many other options you can use. Some are, removing more of the picture, restoring the background, adding a frame, adjusting settings, or adding filters.

Saving your new image.

Be sure to save it with a transparent background!
