Brisk Teaching is a free AI Chrome extension that you can use to change the reading level on a website. It also makes it possible to write curriculum in Docs, generate feedback, and check for student use of AI but I haven't dove into this website enough to be familiar with that. The feature I'm going to focus on today is, changing the reading level on websites.
Below, I will walk you through how you use this option and what it looks like.
Signing Up:
Go to Brisk Teaching
Click "Sign up for free"
Add the extension to your Chrome and be sure to use your school Gmail account if you have multiple accounts.
Using Brisk Teaching:
Once you have added the extension, in the bottom right corner you will see the icon on websites that you are able to use this extension.
When you find a website that has information that you want the reading level changed, click on the icon and wait for the current reading level to appear.
Once the current level shows up, you can select the grade level you want the information changed to, and you can change the language too.
After selecting the new level and language, click "Change reading level"
From here, a Doc will open on your screen. This Doc will be given a title that includes the grade level and the name of the article, the name of the article will be on the Doc, pictures will be added if applicable, a link to the original website will appear, and then the magic happens and the new article will type itself as you sit back and watch.
This video shows the steps above. It shows the entire process, so I would suggest not watching the entire thing unless you want to see how the article will be completely typed for you. The most important/interesting part will take place during the first 15-20 seconds.
