April 22nd Southwest ASL (American Sign Language) level 3 and 4 students hosted ASL Night. Students had been working for the past month, inviting Deaf community members and other ASL students from other Metro high schools. They planned which games they would play and organized the night's schedule. ASL Night is a voice off, full ASL experience. Bringing the Deaf community to Southwest gives the students the opportunity to practice ASL with native signers. The night ended with a story by Albert Walla, a retired Deaf educator. This year we had over 120 people in attendance! The Southwest Foundation gave Ms. Jodi Marker Perelman a grant to pay for supplies, snacks and prizes.
