Placement Tests & Auditions
Do I need a placement test or audition?
Placement tests or auditions may be required for the following subjects: Chemistry, Math, Languages, Music
Math Placement
You may need to take the Math Placement Exam if you plan to register for a math (not statistics) or chemistry course.
Note: Statistics courses do not require the math placement.
You must claim your UMN email address before you are able to take the math placement exam.
Please review the UMN Morris Math Diagnostic Information for exemptions from Calculus I and/or Calculus II to those who do well in AP calculus.
The math placement is recommended for student planning to pursue the following majors:
Biology
Chemistry
Computer Science
Economics
Environmental Science or Environmental Studies
Management
Pre-health programs and Engineering
Mathematics
Physics
Statistics
Language Placement
You may need to take the World Language Placement Exam if you plan to register for a French, German or Spanish language course.
You must claim your UMN email address before you are able to take the placement exam.
UMN Morris also offers other language courses: American Sign Language, Anishinaabe, Dakota, German, Italian, and Latin.

Instrumental Music
Symphonic Winds and Instrumental Chamber Ensembles
Symphonic Winds and Instrumental Chamber ensembles are open to any student regardless of major.
Auditions are required for students who have not previously played in a UMN Morris instrumental ensemble.

Chamber Orchestra
Membership is open to both music and non-music majors.
Auditions are required for admittance to the Chamber Orchestra.

Choral and Vocal Music
University Choir
The University Choir is a large, non-auditioned choral ensemble comprised of students from all majors, as well as, faculty, staff and community members.
No audition or prior singing experience is required.
Concert Choir
The Concert Choir is a select ensemble of approximately 60 members.
The choir is composed of both music and non-music majors.
Chamber Singers
The Chamber Singers is an auditioned ensemble of approximately 20 members.
