AP/IB/CLEP/Transfer Credits

Morris accepts or grants credit for college coursework, Advanced Placement (AP), the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and special examinations arranged individually.

Advanced Placement Credits

The University of Minnesota has a system-wide policy for awarding credit by examination. The system gives credit for Advanced Placement (AP) test scores of three or higher in most areas.

Please visit the UMN Morris AP schedule to see how your AP scores will transfer.  NOTE: The AP schedule may be subject to change.

If you have recently taken AP tests but have not yet received your scores, you will still need to take the placement tests to register for math and chemistry to ensure proper placement. If you do have AP test scores in hand, bring unofficial* copies to your registration appointment or summer orientation so the PSEO adviser can help you with accurate registration.

While AP scores may provide credit for certain courses, depending on your score, your adviser may recommend that you take the same class at the University of Minnesota due to the differences between high school and college courses. This is particularly true for AP Chemistry and AP Calculus scores.

*The unofficial AP score report is used by your PSEO adviser as an advising tool. If you decide to attend the UMN Morris after high school graduation, you WILL need to pay for an official AP score report to transfer the credits to the UMN Morris. We don't ask you to do that now since many of you are not sure where you'll be attending college.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Credit

The University of Minnesota has a system-wide policy for awarding credit by examination. The system gives credit for each higher-level subjects passed with a grade of five or higher for International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, or four if part of the diploma.

Please visit the UMN Morris IB Schedule to see how those IB scores will transfer.

The University of Minnesota only gives credit for higher-level IB exam scores. Standard-level IB exams that are not part of the diploma do not receive credit, but may be used to determine placement in sequenced courses.

Higher-level tests with qualifying scores may fulfill general education categories, major requirements, or both.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

UMN Morris grants credit for College Level Examination Program (CLEP) examinations. Scores on CLEP exams follow national norms and vary by subject. Please visit the UMN Morris CLEP Schedule to see how CLEP scores will transfer. The Morris CLEP code is 6890.

Transfer Credits from Other Colleges/Universities

If you’ve taken dual credit (College in the Schools, PSEO) courses at a college other than UMN Morris, it’s possible that these credits may be used to satisfy your major or general education requirements, or be used for placement in certain courses.

UMN Morris accepts credits completed at any regionally accredited post-secondary institution, provided that the coursework is equivalent in nature, level, and content to courses offered by UMN Morris and applicable to the bachelor of arts degree.

Take the time to review how we transfer credits and access the Transferology system to find exactly which courses will transfer.
