NEURODIVERSITY WEEK AT BPMS
NEURODIVERSITY WEEK AT BPMS
Jenn Randall and Hannah Kinney visited each classroom to launch the learning with a mini-lesson and a read-aloud. Together, we learned that neurodiversity means everyone’s brain works in its own unique way—just like how we all look different on the outside, we’re also different on the inside. We talked about how some people learn quickly, while others may need more time. Some students love to talk, while others are quieter. Some enjoy loud music, while others prefer calm and quiet. These differences are natural and important—because we all think, feel, and learn in our own special way. Classroom conversations were thoughtful and honest. It was truly inspiring to hear students reflect on how we can make our community more inclusive and welcoming for all learners.

What an amazing author-illustrator visit!
Last week, Vermont author-illustrator and Caldecott Medalist Jason Chin came to our school. In addition to presenting to each grade level about his beautiful books, Jason also had lunch bunch with a group of 3/4 graders. We learned firsthand about his writing and artistic process, and how much he has practiced to become the accomplished creator of pictorial non-fiction works for children. Students were treated to watching Jason create an illustration right before their eyes, see his storyboards, and his MANY rough drafts. Talk about magic! His latest book Hurricane was released last Tuesday, so 3/4 graders had the privilege of being the first kids to get to read and see this book, right from its creator! Thanks to BPMS, P.I.E., and the Vermont Community Foundation for collaboratively funding this very special learning opportunity.

Many classes have listened to the book Pause Power: Learning to stay calm when your buttons get pushed by author Jennifer Law. This book illustrates the importance of "Pause Power." This allows modeling and role play of practicing the pause power when we have big feelings and need to use a calm strategy before thinking and making a next step plan to fit the situation. Many learners will come home with three scripts that they have practiced in guidance class and in their classroom to communicate with others when they need space or something to stop.

This Saturday from 9:30-12 - come help spruce things up outside at BPMS! If the weather is bad enough that we need to cancel, we will send an email by 8am Saturday morning.
There are many tasks to tackle! For those of you who are more the “tools” type and less the “gardening” type, there is work for you, too! It’s a great opportunity to come together and care for our school and connect with each other! Contact Lindsay Lyman-Clarke with any questions at llymanclarke@gmail.com. Kids are encouraged to come with their families to help and play too, and there will be light snacks provided!

Staff Appreciation Week was a smashing success thanks to so many families who helped out!
Last week we came together as a community and pulled out all the stops for our school staff! We treated them to a cart full of snacks, 10-minute massages, a breakfast café, a smoothie & juice bar, chocolate truffles and spa goodies, a small bouquet of flowers and handmade bookmark for each staff member, and many words of gratitude! It’s just a small thank you for all of the heart and energy our staff pour into our kids every day, and because of the tremendous generosity and participation from families we were able to do all of that for just over $200! Huge thanks to our coordinators Jenna Koloski, Brit Degree, Helen Stoddard, Rebecca Rosenthal, and to Allison Purcell for providing massage therapy services, to Julia Fields for contributing amazing Birnn Chocolates, and other families and community members who donated snacks, flowers and baked goods, and helped set up and clean up - Jenn Randall, Mike Woods, Maria Tenney-Lawyer, Arielle Huckett, Adessa Morano, Megan Detweiler, Abby Desrocher, Liz Smith, Lexi Ramon, Hilary Redman, Lindsay Lyman-Clarke, Morgan Evarts, Caitlin Henck, Jessica Burns, Ryan Koloski, Ana Burke, anyone we missed, and everyone who expressed appreciation to our staff this past week!

The Chittenden East Youth Football Wolverines have opened up registration for the 2025 fall season. Hop online at ceyfa.org to register your kiddos to join their friends on the big field! The Wolverine program runs in the fall, mid-August through October, with a long history of Championship football. Come be a part of a team, build strong relationships, learn life lessons and build memories that will last a lifetime while learning the game of football. Registration is open for all players in grades 1 through 8. 1st through 4th graders play 7v7 flag football and 5th through 8th graders play tackle. Thinking about the Future: Weigh in on the Chittenden County Draft Future Land Use Map
The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) is working with cities and towns to create a new regional Future Land Use (FLU) map, and is interested in hearing from you! This map, once adopted, will generally guide how land in the region will be used in the future. (Though it’s not a zoning map – that happens at the local level.) Comments will be accepted through Monday, May 19, 2025.

WHY?
Act 181, passed in 2024, aims to promote housing by focusing state funding and reducing Act 250 permitting requirements – if the town chooses – in areas planned for growth.
HOW?
The map groups land uses in Vermont towns into 11 categories, which are defined by state law. This isn't a zoning or development plan – that's still up to municipalities.
THEN WHAT?
Once the map is approved, downtowns, village centers, and neighborhoods are automatically eligible for benefits like tax credits. In addition, municipalities get to choose whether they want some or all of these same areas to be fully or partially exempt from Act 250.
WHAT ABOUT RURAL AREAS?
The mapped rural, agricultural, forestry, and conservation areas on the map give a general idea of important regional resources, but the map does not change how they're regulated.

Hello Part 2 Families,
We’re excited to share details about registration for the 2025–2026 Part 2 Afterschool program. Please read this email carefully, as it contains important information that may answer your questions.
Early Registration Day: April 30th (Noon–Midnight)
Current families have exclusive access to register on Wednesday, April 30th, from NOON to midnight. All families who register during this window are guaranteed a spot for the 2025–2026 school year.
The registration link will be emailed shortly before noon on April 30th.
Important Dates:
April 30 (Noon–Midnight): Priority registration for currently enrolled families
May 1 (Noon–Midnight): Registration opens to waitlisted families
May 2 (Noon): Registration opens to the public, based on availability
If you miss the April 30 window, you’ll need to register alongside waitlist families on May 1st.
Please Note:
Spaces fill quickly, so we strongly encourage you to register on April 30.
Tuition rates for next year are attached. There is a $15 registration fee per student for all families.
All families must re-enroll each school year—be sure to update medical and contact info and sign new permissions and agreements during registration.
