 Our academic day begins at 7:40am and doors are open at 7:20am for breakfast and time to get ready for the day.  If your student is going to be absent or there is a change to their after school schedule, please copy Sue (susan.brady@mmuusd.org) in addition to emailing their classroom teacher.

Next week is I Love to Read Week 2025 at BPMS! Here are some exciting features to look forward to:

ALL WEEK LONG: I Love to Read Week Bingo! Mollie will distribute the boards to students next week. Every student who gets BINGO will get a little prize. Any student who submits a blackout board (fully completed) to Mollie will be entered into a raffle! New this year: anyone who emails Mollie a photo of themselves completing a bingo reading activity will be entered into the raffle twice! 

TUESDAY, May 6: Vermont author-illustrator and Caldecott Medalist Jason Chin will be visiting with our students! Thank you to P.I.E., BPMS, and The Vermont Community Foundation for collaboratively funding this incredible learning opportunity. If you have any of his wonderful books at home, he is willing to sign some of his work! Click here to learn more about him!

RICHMOND RESCUE BIKE HELMET GIVEAWAY!

We're doing our bike helmet giveaway a little differently this year. Instead of one big event, we'll be giving out helmets Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 5:30. Stop by our station at 216 Railroad Street in Richmond with your child and we'll get a properly sized helmet adjusted to fit perfectly. Helmets are available for anyone who resides in our service area: Bolton, Hinesburg, Huntington, Jericho, Richmond, St George, and Starksboro.

We continue to model and practice different breathing across learning environments. In K, 1 and 2 we tried bubble cup breathing to practice taking a deep breath, and then slowly blowing air through a straw into bubble water. We even added some glitter to visualize breathing in a different way. Bubble cup breathing supports improved breath control and engaging opportunities to support mindfulness for the body and brain.  

The Kindergarten class weren't "birdbrains", yet they were pretending to have the body and BRAINS of a bird while building nests during Forest Friday. A good exercise for these young learners to experience the structure and function of beaks and claws of birds in nest building. 

Thinking about the Future: Weigh in on the Chittenden County Draft Future Land Use Map

The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) is working with cities and towns to create a new regional Future Land Use (FLU) map, and is interested in hearing from you! This map, once adopted, will generally guide how land in the region will be used in the future. (Though it’s not a zoning map – that happens at the local level.) Comments will be accepted through Monday, May 19, 2025.

WHY?
Act 181, passed in 2024, aims to promote housing by focusing state funding and reducing Act 250 permitting requirements – if the town chooses – in areas planned for growth.

HOW?
The map groups land uses in Vermont towns into 11 categories, which are defined by state law. This isn't a zoning or development plan – that's still up to municipalities.

THEN WHAT?
Once the map is approved, downtowns, village centers, and neighborhoods are automatically eligible for benefits like tax credits. In addition, municipalities get to choose whether they want some or all of these same areas to be fully or partially exempt from Act 250.

WHAT ABOUT RURAL AREAS?
The mapped rural, agricultural, forestry, and conservation areas on the map give a general idea of important regional resources, but the map does not change how they're regulated.

Hello Part 2 Families,

We’re excited to share details about registration for the 2025–2026 Part 2 Afterschool program. Please read this email carefully, as it contains important information that may answer your questions.

 Early Registration Day: April 30th (Noon–Midnight)
Current families have exclusive access to register on Wednesday, April 30th, from NOON to midnight. All families who register during this window are guaranteed a spot for the 2025–2026 school year.

The registration link will be emailed shortly before noon on April 30th.

Important Dates:

• April 30 (Noon–Midnight): Priority registration for currently enrolled families
  
  

• May 1 (Noon–Midnight): Registration opens to waitlisted families
  
  

• May 2 (Noon): Registration opens to the public, based on availability

 If you miss the April 30 window, you’ll need to register alongside waitlist families on May 1st.

 Please Note:

• Spaces fill quickly, so we strongly encourage you to register on April 30.

• Tuition rates for next year are attached. There is a $15 registration fee per student for all families.

• All families must re-enroll each school year—be sure to update medical and contact info and sign new permissions and agreements during registration.
