Hike Day is an annual tradition at BPMS. Students, staff and family members head out for a beautiful fall hike on the trails at Sleepy Hollow. This is an opportunity for students, staff and families to enjoy being outdoors together while also getting some amazing views of Camels Hump. Stay tuned for more details to follow.
FROM THE KITCHEN
Kitchen Volunteers Needed
Are you interested in an opportunity to be involved in your child(ren)’s life during the school day? Would you like to get to know every child at BPMS by name? Curious to know if your kids are actually eating their vegetables at school? If so, volunteering in the kitchen as a lunch server might be a great place to start! The BPMS kitchen team is proud to make fresh, wholesome, and delicious food, however, we are dependent on volunteers to help serve lunch. Please consider signing up for a day or two to join the kitchen team and be a part of the school lunch hustle. The time commitment is from 10:50-12:30 and no experience is required! And, you get to see your kiddos and squeeze in a few extra hugs! Please check out the SignUpGenius HERE to sign up for a shift or contact Hilary at hilary.redman@mmuusd.org for more information.
The Kindergarten class is having fun learning by exploring pattern blocks and building fun creations with their peers. Additionally, the class is truly into counting to the number 14!
HEALTH UPDATE
When in a booster seat (with or without a back) the seat belt should fit across the middle of the chest and shoulder (see above) with the lap belt across the upper thighs (see above).
All children should be properly restrained in the back seat until age 13.
Proper use of car seats, booster seats and seat belts can reduce safety risks by as much as 70%.
Richmond Rescue can help properly fit your child to your car seat, call to make an appointment. 802-434-2394

FROM THE LIBRARY
FROM THE LIBRARY:
Great news! 3/4 graders can check out audiobook devices this year in two formats -- Playaways and Wonderbooks! Playaways are small devices on which students can listen to the text being read, while they are reading along with the hard copy of the book. Wonderbooks are actual books with the audiobook player device embedded in the inside of the front cover. Fancy! Can your child just listen to the stories without reading along in the text? Yes. However, I do say to students that for the most growth as a reader, listening WHILE reading along in the text is the most powerful combination. We are so happy to offer a variety of media to our older students to increase access to great titles. With this privilege comes the big responsibility of caring for these amazing resources. Each device costs between $50-$80, so if damaged, replacement is expensive. I do A LOT of education around how to care for these materials. However, if you feel that this poses too much of a risk (the expense of replacing a damaged audiobook device), please let me and your student know, and they can still check them out, but not take them between school and home. Keeping the devices in their classroom book box is one way to minimize wear and tear. You know what will work best for your student, so I leave this decision up to caregivers and their students. The earbuds I can provide with these devices are not high quality or especially durable. Many students opt to use their own headphones. The headphones must have a wire to plug into the headphone port of the device; wireless headphones will not work. Thanks for reading this, and please email me with any further questions/concerns at mollie.sprague@mmuusd.org
