Our academic day begins at 7:40am and doors are open at 7:20am for breakfast and time to get ready for the day. If your student is going to be absent or there is a change to their after school schedule, please copy Sue (susan.brady@mmuusd.org) in addition to emailing their classroom teacher.

Welcome to Our Newest Team Members!
We are so happy to introduce you to the newest members of the BPMS family. Each of them brings unique talents, fresh perspectives, and a shared commitment to supporting our students and school community. Please join us in giving them a warm Brewster-Pierce welcome!
Since 2017, Suzanne Marchelewicz (Mark-a-lev-itz) has served multiple roles at Brewster PIerce, including Part 2 Director, paraeducator, substitute teacher, and parent. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University with a concentration in English Education, and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Elementary Education. Suzanne lives in Huntington with her husband Paul, their two sons, Lowell (13) and Walker (11), and their dog Rudi. In winter you'll find her skiing at Sugarbush most weekends. In warmer weather she can be found gardening, swimming, camping, and watching baseball. She is thrilled to be a grade 3/4 teacher for the 2024-25 school year.
I am excited to be joining the BPMS team as an employee after volunteering here for the past 12 years. I have lived in Huntington for 15 years and grew up in Jericho. I fell in love with BPMS when my son Ryan was here and he is now a senior in high school and I haven’t left this amazing little school. I have been watching your kiddos growing up these past years and now am looking forward to getting to know their families as well. I love cooking and kids so it just makes sense to be here!
Hello everyone! My name is Mark Howland, and I am a local—born and raised in Richmond, Vermont. I’m quite familiar with this district and have always had a strong connection to the area. It's a place I’ve always loved and am proud to call home. I went to high school at Mt. Mansfield Union High School and later attended Castleton University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a master’s degree in Athletic Leadership. I also had the incredible experience of playing four years of college football during my time there.
Staying active is a big part of who I am—whether that’s hunting, fishing, working out, or just spending time outdoors. I’m truly excited to meet so many new people and students, and I’m looking forward to a fun school year ahead!
My name is Corey Paradis and I am happy to be joining BPMS next year! I am a licensed mental health counselor and have been working at Richmond Elementary School as a school-based clinician for the past 3 years. When not at work, I spend much of my time in the garden or being outside with my wife, 3yo daughter, 1yo son and miniature golden doodle. I look forward to getting to know the students, families and staff at BPMS and being part of what already feels like a positive and fun school culture.

Hi! I'm so excited to be joining the BPMS community this fall. For most of the past decade, I worked as a special educator in the Champlain Valley School District supporting students from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. After spending the past few years focused on my young family, I'm thrilled to be rejoining a school community again. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, staying active with my family, and going on adventures with our dog. I'm looking forward to getting to know the students, families and staff at BPMS and becoming a part of your community!

Hello families, my name is Emma Parent and I’m so excited to be a teacher at Brewster Pierce Memorial School.
I live in Huntington with my husband Joe, our son Rocco, and our two cats. We love spending time outdoors—hiking, biking, skiing, walking, and being with family.
For the past three years, I’ve had the joy of teaching Pre-school, 1st, and 2nd grade at Smilie Memorial School in Bolton. I’m passionate about bringing a play-based, student-centered approach into our classroom, where curiosity and creativity guide our learning. As a Richmond Elementary School graduate myself, it’s especially meaningful to teach in the same district that helped shape my own love of learning and teaching.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Vermont, along with a graduate certificate in Racial Equity and Educational Justice. I’m currently completing my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Literacy at St. Michael’s College.
I feel incredibly lucky to be part of the Brewster Pierce community and look forward to many wonderful years ahead.

This year, we have been looking closely at literacy instruction across our district. As such, our district is conducting an audit of our current literacy practices, resources, supports, and assessments. From Marzano, a highly respected researcher and leader in education, “A literacy audit helps districts and schools ensure their literacy practices, supports, and assessment systems are grounded in research and evidence-based practices and designed to meet
the needs of all learners.”
The audit will include a deep dive into our student learning data, surveying stakeholders to include students and caregivers, and conducting classroom observations, honing in on best practices across our district in literacy. Please consider taking time to reflect on your student’s current literacy experiences at MMUUSD. If you have more than one student, you may take this survey multiple times. There is also a student survey linked below. We ask that you share this with your student(s) and help them complete this form.

FOUR WINDS NATURE PROGRAM IS COMING TO BPMS!
FOUR WINDS NATURE PROGRAM IS COMING TO BPMS!
The Four Winds Nature Program is coming to BPMS next school year and we need volunteers! Please consider joining our community of learners—adult volunteers and children—exploring the nearby natural world together. Nurturing a child’s sense of place, wonder, and scientific curiosity is important work, and it is the dedication of the school’s Nature Program volunteers that makes this happen.
As Nature Program volunteers, you and your teaching partner(s) will present monthly lessons to K-4 students. Kids love taking part in these science lessons, having you as a guest teacher, and exploring nature outside in the schoolyard. To prepare, you will attend a two-hour workshop led by a Four Winds naturalist-educator prior to every lesson. Training workshops will be held outdoors to the extent possible with hands-on activities to help you learn the subject matter. We’ll discuss ways to present the lesson to children outdoors and strategies to make each lesson engaging and effective for the age group with which you are working.

RICHMOND RESCUE BIKE HELMET GIVEAWAY!
HELMETS STILL AVAILABLE!
FROM Richmond Rescue: We're doing our bike helmet giveaway a little differently this year. Instead of one big event, we'll be giving out helmets Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 5:30. Stop by our station at 216 Railroad Street in Richmond with your child and we'll get a properly sized helmet adjusted to fit perfectly. Helmets are available for anyone who resides in our service area: Bolton, Hinesburg, Huntington, Jericho, Richmond, St George, and Starksboro.

Dear MMUUSD Families:
Vermont participates in the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (S-EBT) program. S-EBT helps feed eligible school-aged children during summer vacation. The benefit is $120 for the summer per eligible child. It can be used to buy food at grocery stores, farmers markets and online where EBT is accepted. Benefits will be sent automatically to most eligible families starting on June 2.
The Vermont Department for Children and Families will send you a letter if your family will get the benefit automatically. The letter will have instructions. Here’s how the benefits will arrive:
If your household has an EBT card, S-EBT benefits will be added to that card.
If you have an S-EBT card from last summer, the benefit will be added to that card. If you lost your card, call 1-888-354-0012, option 7 to get a new one.
Families who don’t already have an EBT card will receive a new card in the mail.
Please keep your card for next summer!
Children are automatically eligible for S-EBT if:
They are between 6 - 16 years old and get Medicaid with a qualifying family income, 3SquaresVT, or Reach Up; or,
They qualify for free or reduced-price meals at a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program. Even though Vermont schools offer free meals to all students, only some students qualify for free and reduced-price meals.
Children participating in several other assistance programs may also get the benefit automatically.
If you think your child is eligible and you do not receive a benefit letter in the mail by July 7, visit https://summerebt.vermont.gov/ to submit a short application. Children can also get Summer EBT if they go to a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program and their household income is below the limit. Applications can be submitted any time before August 29. The income limit increases on July 1, so check back after July 1 if you don’t currently qualify.
In addition to Summer EBT, children 18 and under can receive free meals at any open summer meal site. All children are invited to get summer meals, even if you do not qualify for Summer EBT. Some summer meal sites provide meals to eat on site. Other sites provide food to take home. You can call 2-1-1 or visit the Summer Meal Finder at https://www.fns.usda.gov/summer/sitefinder to find locations. Vermont summer meal sites will be posted on June 20.
Receiving Summer EBT benefits does not affect the family’s immigration status.
New this summer, families with EBT cards can visit Vermont State Parks for free! Just show your EBT card at the park entrance and you and your household can enter for free. Visit https://www.vermontparksforever.org/paf-pilot to learn more.

The Chittenden East Youth Football Wolverines have opened up registration for the 2025 fall season. Hop online at ceyfa.org to register your kiddos to join their friends on the big field! The Wolverine program runs in the fall, mid-August through October, with a long history of Championship football. Come be a part of a team, build strong relationships, learn life lessons and build memories that will last a lifetime while learning the game of football. Registration is open for all players in grades 1 through 8. 1st through 4th graders play 7v7 flag football and 5th through 8th graders play tackle.
