Students should arrive at 7:20 AM to enjoy breakfast and social connection time with their peers. Our academic day begins promptly at 7:40 AM, and students should be ready to learn by that time. Dismissal begins at 2:15 PM for bus riders, and at 2:20 PM for students being picked up or attending Part 2. If your student is going to be absent or there is a change to their after school schedule, please copy Sue (susan.brady@mmuusd.org) in addition to emailing their classroom teacher.
It is hard to believe, but soon we will begin planning for next school year! We want to share a bit about our student placement process. Our team—classroom teachers, specialists, support staff, and administrators—works thoughtfully to create balanced, supportive learning environments for every child.
Family input is an important part of this process. If you would like to share insights about your child as a learner, please consider completing this optional My Child as a Learner form by Friday, May 8th (one per student). While we value your input, final placement decisions are made by the school team, as we consider many factors to best support all students.
Thank you for your partnership and trust in this process. Please reach out if you have any questions or need support completing the form.
Dear 4th Grade Parents/Guardians,
This year will be the 11th annual 4th Grade MMU Invitational Track Meet. The event will be held at MMU on Thursday, June 4th (with a rain date of Friday, June 5th). Fourth grade scholars from Richmond, Jericho, Underhill, Huntington, and Bolton will be participating in the track meet. The meet is a way for scholars to begin to build relationships with their future classmates at BRMS and CHMS while promoting physical activity. All the elementary P.E. Teachers in the district would greatly appreciate seeing you either as a spectator or as a volunteer. The approximate time of the track meet will be 9:00am-1:00pm at the MMU track. Please see the second page for Track Meet Schedule.
We will begin training for the track events in P.E. Your child will choose to participate in one running event and one field event. Each child will also be part of a 4 X 100 meter relay team. The running events will have the following distances: 50, 100, 200, or 400 meters. The field events will be the softball throw, running long jump, and the high jump.
A bag lunch will be provided by BPMS. Please make sure your child has a water bottle, and apply sunscreen and bug spray at home.

Ms. Parker and Erin’s class used field guides to find signs of spring near Brush Brook. They found every single flower on their guide!
The Kindergarten class sure enjoyed meeting Duncan Tonatiuh, author/illustrator, during the artist in residence week. He taught them how he creates his art. And how to do a headstand too!
Happy kids in the BPMS Library! We love our school library! Enjoy!

Each year, our school develops a Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP), which helps guide our goals, priorities, and the actions we take to support all students. It ensures we are using data to reflect on what’s working, where we need to grow, and how we will continue improving outcomes for every child.
Our key goals focus on both academic success and student well-being. By June 2027, we are working toward 80% or more of all 3rd grade students—including students with IEPs and those from historically marginalized groups—meeting local assessment benchmarks in both literacy and math. We also have a strong focus on ensuring all students feel safe, supported, and a sense of belonging at school.
To support these goals, we are continuing to strengthen our core instruction in reading and math, while also building more consistent and responsive systems across classrooms. Next year, this includes adding instructional coaching to support teachers in real time, expanding targeted intervention tools to better support students who need extra help, and increasing student support through the addition of a school counselor and behavior support staff.
All of this work is connected—strong instruction, timely support, and a positive school environment—so that every student can learn, grow, and thrive. Here is a link to the presentation I shared earlier this week, along with the recording of that presentation.
Track is Back! The Mt. Mansfield Summer Track Program returns for our 32nd year. We are a program open to all athletes from beginners to those looking to specialize in certain events. Athletes will practice and compete based on age groups from 5-6 years old up to the 13-15 age group. It is a great way for younger kids to learn a new sport and helps the middle school athletes prepare for high school. Practices are Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 at the MMU track. The program starts on Wednesday, June 17th and wraps up on Wednesday, July 15. We have 2-3 meets with other teams from Chittenden County and there is the option of competing at the Vermont Recreation and Parks state meet at the end of the season. Registration is $40 for the first child in a family, $30 for the second, and $20 for each additional child and includes a team t-shirt. The program is run by Mt. Mansfield Track Coach Bill Eschholz and members of the 2025 MMU Track Team. For additional information or to request a registration form please email Bill Eschholz at MMSTXC@gmail.com.
We’re excited to announce the launch of “Confident Kids”—a new campaign encouraging parents and caregivers to use supportive, everyday language about food, bodies, and movement to help children build confidence and develop healthy relationships with food and movement.
As part of a new collaboration from the Vermont Departments of Health, Mental Health, and the Statewide Eating Disorders Workgroup, the “Confident Kids” web page offers resources to help adults learn how the language we use in everyday conversations can contribute to body dissatisfaction and low self-esteem. It also offers helpful language tips that adults can use to change the conversation.
To help you share this message, we’ve created ready-to-use print and digital materials.
Digital toolkit: Sample newsletter/email copy, social media posts, and printable flyers/posters – Attached. Linked images can be downloaded through April 2027.
Printed Flyers: You can request professionally printed flyers while supplies last or until Monday, 5/11: "Confident Kids" Flyer Request – Fill out form.
For additional resources, visit the campaign website: HealthVermont.gov/ConfidentKids. Comments and questions about the campaign can be sent to ahs.vdhfchconfidentkids@vermont.gov.
