 Our academic day begins at 7:40am and doors are open at 7:20am for breakfast and time to get ready for the day.  If your student is going to be absent or there is a change to their after school schedule, please copy Sue (susan.brady@mmuusd.org) in addition to emailing their classroom teacher. 

Reminder: Staff Availability and Email Response Time

As stated in our Welcome Back to School email, our staff is available from 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM, with their primary focus being students during the school day. While staff members check email periodically, please allow up to 24 hours for a response. Emails sent after school hours or during school vacations will be addressed on the next school day.

If you require immediate assistance during school hours, please contact Sue Brady in the front office (#802-434-2074).

Invitation to Join Interview Committee for Retiring Staff

We are in the beginning phases of planning for the upcoming retirement of some of our staff members, and we are excited to invite parents to be part of the interview committee as we work to find the best candidates for these important roles.

We anticipate conducting interviews the week of March 31st (but that is subject to change!) and would love to have a variety of perspectives represented. Measles Information for Families and Staff

U.S. Measles Cases are Rising–Make Sure Your Family is Protected

Dear MMUUSD Community,

In the first few months of 2025, there have been multiple outbreaks of measles. Notably, there is an ongoing outbreak of measles in Quebec. Most cases have been in children and teens who are unvaccinated against measles. Get current information about cases and outbreaks (CDC). This is a very serious disease that can cause death. 

Measles is not just a little rash. Measles is a highly contagious respiratory virus that

can be dangerous, especially for babies and young children. Some may suffer from

severe complications, such as pneumonia (infection of the lungs) and encephalitis

(swelling of the brain). Nearly 1 to 3 of every 1,000 children who become infected with

measles will die from respiratory and neurologic complications.

Measles is almost entirely preventable with vaccines. While most people in the U.S.

and Vermont are vaccinated against measles, communities with lower vaccine coverage

are at higher risk for outbreaks. Vaccinating your family protects other children from

measles who can’t get vaccinated because they are too young or have medical

conditions. Being vaccinated against measles is your best defense against measles.

Here’s how you can help keep your family, school, and community healthy:

• Make sure you and your family are vaccinated against measles—especially if you plan to travel outside of the U.S. Measles is still common in many parts of the world. Every year, measles is brought into the U.S. by unvaccinated travelers who get measles while they are in other countries. 

  • Children should get two doses of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine—the first dose at 12-15 months and the second dose at 4-6 years.

  • Babies 6-11 months old who are traveling internationally should get an early dose of the MMR vaccine at least two weeks before travel.

• If your child is sick with measles symptoms, stay home and call your doctor. 

  • Symptoms usually start with a high fever, then a cough, runny nose, and red and watery eyes. A rash usually appears three to five days after the first symptoms. 

  • If you do not have a health care provider, call 2-1-1 to be connected to care. 

  • If you suspect measles, make sure to call before going to a doctor’s office, the hospital, or a clinic to let them know about symptoms. Because the virus is so contagious, the office will need to take precautions before you arrive. 

  • While there is no treatment for measles, your doctor will have the best guidance on how to care for a child with measles.

Track is Back!  The Mt. Mansfield Summer Track Program returns for our 31st year.  We are a program open to all athletes from beginners to those looking to specialize in certain events.  Athletes will practice and compete based on age groups from 5-6 years old up to the 13-15 age group.  It is a great way for younger kids to learn a new sport and helps the middle school athletes prepare for high school.  Practices are Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 at the MMU track.  The program starts on Monday, June 23 and wraps up on Wednesday, July 16.  We have 2-3 meets with other teams from Chittenden County and there is the option of competing at the Vermont Recreation and Parks state meet at the end of the season.  Registration is $40 for the first child in a family, $30 for the second, and $20 for each additional child and includes a team t-shirt.  The program is run by Mt.
