In Reader's workshop, students will learn about visualising. They will focus on Character descriptions and the vocabulary used by the authors to build the character's image/ personality in the reader's mind.
The mentor text will be passages from Roald Dahl's- Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Because of Winn-Dixie.
Students will practice visualising with their own Good Fit Books.
This week we be working on editing and revising our own narratives. The focus of our lessons will be to understand how to construct a paragraph and when to use them in our writing. Students will also build their descriptive writing skills by using their senses to describe a setting or character.
Students will continue to learn about subordinating conjunctions and using them to write their own complex sentences.
In Spelling, we will be revising sounds and tricky words covered so far this year.
This week we are focusing on number lines and rounding. We will estimating where numbers belong on a number line (eg 0-100) and the reasoning for these decisions. In rounding, students will learn about the purpose of rounding and using their place value knowledge to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, etc.
This week in Health, we will continue our lessons with our new Friendology Program.
The first session is focused on what a 'Friendship Fire' is and how to resolve conflict with a friend. They will also have an opportunity to practice giving a genuine apology.
In the second session, students are introduced to the term 'Mean on Purpose Behaviour'. They learn how to respond to intentionally unkind or cruel behaviour.
Students will continue to explore Civics and Citizenship this week.
Councillor Ben Stennett will be visiting the school and talking to the students about the local council services and how decisions are made.
Students will also recognise various roles and acts that contribute positively to the community.
