In Reader's workshop, students will make predictions about texts and investigate a narrative structure using our Mentor Texts:
Miss Lily's Fabulous Pink Feather Boa by Margaret Wild
Gary by Leila Rudge
This week we be planning and writing our own narratives. We will learn about the parts of a narrative and what to include in each part.
Students will learn about subordinating conjunctions and using them to write their own complex sentences.
In Spelling, we will be learning about the doubling rule when adding suffixes to words.
Students will continue to develop their understanding of Place Value, starting to link these concepts into addition and subtraction. This will be done through having a number and calculating one more/less, ten more/less, etc. - especially over barrier numbers (e.g. 100, 200, etc.). We will also focus on time, durations and 'am'/'pm' notations.
This week in Health, we will continue our lessons with our new Friendology Program.
The first session is focused on the four 'Friendship Facts'. It teaches students that conflict is normal in friendships and that friendships change as we change.
In the second session, students are introduced to the Friend-O-Meter, which helps them differentiate between healthy and unhealthy friendships.
Students will continue to explore Civics and Citizenship this week.
What are rules & why are they important?
This week students are learning to understand the importance of rules and how changes to them can impact fairness and gameplay.
