Description:

  • "Students who learn and think differently sometimes get tired easily, have a low tolerance for frustration, or have trouble figuring out how to approach their work. Switching up what they're doing for a few minutes can help break those patterns. Research shows that brain breaks can serve that purpose and help refresh the mind. "

Options:

  • give break when needed (either student requested or teacher initiated)

  • set times throughout the day to take break

  • give a certain number of break passes to use during the day or class period

Types of brain breaks:

  • mindfulness - allows mind to settle enough to focus, gives overworked areas of the brain time to recharge

  • movement - can help focus and attention, reduce stress/anxiety making it easier to focus
