Individual interventions:

  • Check-In/Check-Out: Check In/Check Out is an intervention for students who may need more positive adult attention and structured feedback to be successful in school. Students who are displaying frequent minor rule violations across numerous settings are often successful using this intervention.

  • Self-Monitoring of Academic Productivity: Self-monitoring increases academic productivity by teaching students to monitor their own behaviors while performing daily classwork assignments. It should only be used with students who can successfully complete the task. Monitoring frustration will have a negative impact on students. Therefore, self-monitoring is designed to help students complete work more quickly while being more productive.

  • Visual Cues to Return to Task: Instructors can use planned visual or other cues to prompt a student to return to the expected task without disrupting the classroom.

  • Learning Contract: A learning contract is a document completed by a student and teacher that outlines actions the learner will take in a course to achieve academic success. This provides academic structure and support and can motivate students by having them pledge to engage in specific, positive learning behaviors. It also allows teachers and students to come to an agreement on what goals are most important and how to achieve them.
