Academic Competition for Excellence, or better known as ACE, is an academic competition amongst students that is typically referred to as a scholastic bowl. On Thursday, November 3rd, our team beat both Altavista and William Campbell at Dan River High School.

“We were missing our leading scorer, but it was a great night to give the entire team a chance to play,” said Coach Jared Smith. “For the team, it went good, but for me as a player it was bad,” said Junior Rookie Peyton Gauldin. The team seemed pretty confident on their performance last night, beating both teams by a landslide.

Aryan Kulkarni and Antoni Matczak were the star players from last night. They both got 150 each, with the runner ups being Freshman Carter Wilson with 100 points and Senior Yusef Stroud getting 85 points. “I think we’re a very strong team, but we’re still getting better. Last night we were averaging mostly 200. I think we could have scored 350 with Aaron there, but I think challenging everyone to get better is gonna make everybody better,” stated Mr. Smith.

The team ended up going 4-0 and advancing to 8-0 on the season. The next match will be November 17, at Appomattox High school.
