The Theatre Guild held a preview performance of their 35-minute rendition of Romeo and Juliet on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.

It was a sold-out show as parents, students, and alumni came out to show their support.

The guild has been working on this piece for the last ten weeks in preparation for the VHSL Theatre competition that begins this Saturday, November 2.

The cast and crew is made up of a total of 24 students with Mr. Welyer as their director. The actors have been hard at work memorizing lines, getting to know their characters, and even learning how to sword fight and fake their death.

After the performance, the cast and crew seemed to be hopeful about their chances at the competition. Shelby Brady, a junior playing the part of Romeo, said, “Honestly, I think we have a shot at winning it. If not, however, it’ll be great fun for the memories we make.”

When asked if he felt he was ready for competition, Chad Abueznaid, who plays Peter and the Page, commented, “Absolutely not, but let’s do it anyway.”

The biggest challenge for the competition will be to get the show performed in under thirty minutes. For the next few rehearsals, that will be one of their main focuses.
