Thanksgiving Recap!

We are so proud to share that our students this year donated 17,536 tokens that they had earned.  These tokens were then turned in for items purchased and delivered to the local food bank.

What a joy to see the staff and students working together to prepare such a wonderful, delicious and meaningful meal for all to enjoy together.  A longstanding and favored tradition here at Lighthouse.  A time of coming together to be thankful for being a part of something so special.

Another fun and exciting tradition at Lighthouse School is the Turkey Trot.  This is a time for the students to expend some energy and burn some calories.  The students chase after and try to catch Tom the Turkey.  What a site to see.

Thanksgiving is a time for getting together with family and friends.  It is a day to be grateful for all of life’s blessings, no matter how big or small.

December's Theme of the Month: Relationships

A relationship is defined as the way in which two or more people are connected. At Lighthouse, we want to build quality relationships based on mutual investment and love. We want to show our students that we care for them and they can trust us. By building relationships with students, we can build bridges of insight that connect their relationships with staff with relationships that they have had with other important people in their lives.

Honor Roll

Academic Honor Roll acknowledges students that maintained excellence through A/B or Adv./Prof. grades in their core academic areas (ELA, Writing, Reading, Math, History, Science), with the exception of a grade scope of Adv/Prf/Prg for Reading and Writing. This year, we also looked at the Secondary School, specifically our grade 11+, and included Transition courses into the Honor Roll requirements. This was to support the additional focus that the students at our Mill Road site have on Transition Services to prepare them for their world after Lighthouse.

Families received an email notification and the Academic Honor Roll list was processed with the homeroom staff during morning group. Their pictures were also displayed on a cluster bulletin board. Students were able to celebrate their accomplishments during a Taco Bar celebration on November 29th, where they were presented with their Academic Honor Roll certificates.

Philosophy Amplification Project:

"Leaf an Impression"

The ninth highlight of our Philosophy Amplification Project is Leaf An Impression, this new station is located in the Recreation Room at Wellman Avenue.

The APEX Application:

This station features a forest made of student’s leaves.  Each student will pick a stencil and choose paint colors of their choice to ‘leaf’ an impression.  Students can paint and decorate their leaves the way they want to express themselves.  On the back of their leaf, they will write a belief they have.  These leaves will remain in our forest, transitioning to the leaf pile alongside transitioning students.

Discussions: What does 'leaving an impression' mean to you? What are some things that you remember when you first meet someone new? What kind of impression do you want to leave behind/on others? Do you have impressions/memories of someone who is no longer with you?

The Biodevelopmental components are: Identity, Social Responsibility, Values, Spiritual Dimension, and Self-Concept

Our Campus Facilities

As we shared with you in our last Family Newsletter, the Campus Development Project is well underway.  We are so excited to see the progress made every day and of course are delighted to be able to share with you as well.  Please see below additional photos of the construction development.  We hope you are as excited about this project as we are.  As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Holiday Shop

This is a very special event for our students.  It gives them the opportunity to "purchase" gifts for their family members, loved ones, or special friend.  Because they are using tokens they earned, it allows for a wonderful learning and personal growth opportunity as it teaches the students about giving to others.
