“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.”

- Ziad K. Abdelnour

Dear Parents & Guardians,

We hope this weekly update finds you all well. As we approach the end of the school year, we want to pause and recognize how different it will feel for all of us. As you may already be aware, the last day of school for students is Friday, June 19th.

Usually at this point we are preparing for our culminating events and traditions that have celebrated the achievements and recognized the hard work your child has put into learning and Biodevelopmental growth. Sadly, under our current situation we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel most events and modify another.

Field Day and all Award Ceremonies will be cancelled. We are happy to announce that we will be having a Transition Ceremony, virtually, on Friday June 12th at 2:30. More details on that soon.

Finally, although these lost experiences weigh heavy on our collective hearts, we remain strong as a Lighthouse family. We hope your families were able to enjoy the Memorial Day Weekend.

Warm Regards,

Peter Lang, M.Ed., Principal

Additional Online Learning Platforms

In addition to the live lessons and Google Classroom assignments available to your children as part of their remote learning, Lighthouse School has accounts with a number of online learning platforms, such as Lexia, Prodigy and iXL. These platforms can be used as tools to help increase progress or refine skills across all of the core content areas. They offer fantastic opportunities for use during any of the times on your child’s schedule for Math, History, Science, or English Language Arts classes that are not presented with scheduled live instruction. Participation and progress on any of these platforms can be tracked and monitored by our teachers.

We've included brief summaries of the platforms and we hope that you will find them to be helpful tools to supplement your child’s learning. If you have questions about any of these platforms or want more information on how to help your child access them, please reach out to your Family Therapist.

Lexia Core5 (100 and 200 cluster students): This is a reading program that helps provide differentiated instruction with a focus on literacy skills. The program provides systematic learning in all six areas of reading instruction, targeting skill gaps as they emerge.

Prodigy (100 and 200 Cluster students): This is a Math program that involves students using math skills to complete "quests" and advance to different levels within a game. As the student answers the questions, the program adapts to target specific math skills or bridge learning gaps based upon the knowledge and skills the students demonstrate.

iXL (All students): This comprehensive K-12 curriculum program assesses students with a Diagnostic Test to determine their independent level. Suggested skills and questions are generated to bridge learning gaps as needed. Student accounts span across Math, Science and Social Studies. As students answer questions, there are explanations available to help develop understanding in the skill being tested and additional resources will be suggested to help refine these skills.
