Health and Wellness

As always, the health and well-being of our staff and students is a top priority for all of us at Lighthouse School. We want to ensure that our students and their families know and understand the many measures that can be taken to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, not only during school hours, but also at home and in the community.

We of course recognize that good attendance is very important to each and every student. It is also just as important to maintain a healthy environment to prevent the spread of contagious illnesses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Public Health (DPH), and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), have recommended the following measures to stay healthy and help prevent the spread of a contagious illness. Working together we can help to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and help keep everyone healthy and safe.

  • Vaccination

  • Mask wearing

  • Hand washing

  • When possible, maintaining a minimum of 3 feet of distance

  • If your child is not feeling well or experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, upset stomach or chills, keep them home and contact your family doctor

  • If your child has been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID -19, keep them home and get them tested. Be sure to notify Lighthouse school.

  • If your child tests positive for COVID-19, contact your family doctor and notify school personnel. Also, the child should isolate for 5 days

Recently, we updated our policy regarding close contacts and COVID testing at school. If your child is identified as a close contact of someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you will be notified by email. With written parent/guardian consent, we will test students in our Medical Center if they have been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. If you have not yet given your consent but would like to, the link to complete the form is https://form.jotform.com/220113655110034. Please note that if your child is unvaccinated and we do not have consent to test, we will need to call you and have them picked up from school if they are identified as a close contact.

"No Wireless Devices Policy"

We want to remind you of our "No Wireless Policy" at Lighthouse School, which includes cell phones, tablets and smart watches, among other electronic devices with wireless/Bluetooth capability. We appreciate your help in reinforcing with your child that cell phones are not to be used during the day and should be shut off and put away while school is in session.

Parent Advisory Council

Our next Parent Advisory Council meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 11th at Noon. This meeting will be for parents of students in the 100, 200 and 300 clusters and will take place virtually. There will be a meeting for the 400 cluster on March 11th.

Our Parent Advisory Council meetings are designed to provide families with a formal opportunity to share their input and discuss issues as they relate to the Education, Health and Safety of students in the program. Invitations have been sent to all families in the 100, 200 and 300 cluster. We hope you can all join us and if you are planning to attend, please RSVP in the JotForm link emailed in the invitation so we can send you the link for the Google Meet.

DESE Regulatory Information

We are proud to announce that on January 5th we completed our D.E.S.E. full program review and the conclusion was that once again, Lighthouse School has the full approval of D.E.S.E. to continue much needed services to students and their families.

February Bioeducational Theme of the Month: Humor

During the month of February, students will explore the Bioeducational Theme of Humor. This theme is always a favorite for students and staff members as it is a great opportunity to be silly and have fun while developing a useful skill.

Humor serves many functions. It can be used for bonding with others, releasing tension, and for entertainment. It is often a way to connect with others. Finding the humor in a situation can help us cope. Evidence suggests that humor dispels negative emotions, increases emotional well-being, enhances interpersonal relationships, and reduces pain. As the saying goes “laughter is the best medicine”.

Recognizing that not all students recognize humor or understand how to use humor in a beneficial way, staff members are able to teach and explore humor as an interpersonal and pragmatic skill. For example, students will learn when humor is and is not appropriate, who is a good audience for humor, and how to respond to jokes. During their lessons, students will engage in a variety of activities such as creating comic strips, writing their own jokes, conducting silly Science experiments and solving humorous riddles on Math lessons.
