OUR FAVOURITE BOOKS...

This is one of our favourite pages... We love reading books, novels of all sorts, and we write short descriptive texts so as to learn new vocabulary, and share ideas, opinions, feelings and emotions with our mates and the world!
All the material and images we post here is meant for didactic/educational purpose, of course, and we feel hopeful that friends and other teens would get inspired and.... read read read!
My favourite book is "Darkest minds". The plot is quite complicated: a contagious disease called Idiopathic Adolescent Acute Neurodegeneration (IAAN) killed nearly 90% of the children in the world, leaving the survivors with unusual abilities. They have been placed in a kind of "rehabilitation camp" which is actually an internment camp. The childen are identified by colour groups based on their abilities: green (super intelligence), blue (telekinesis), yellow (electrokinesis), red (pyrokinesis) and orange (psionic ability)
I like this book because it is captivating, full of action, engaging and because the writer - Alexandra Braecken - is creative, ingenious and talented.
While I was reading it, I identified and empathised with the main character, Ruby Daily, who is adventuros, brave, generous, kind, moody and she always takes care of her friends.
"Divergent" is a novel written by Veronica Roth and it’s a science fiction novel. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Chicago and it follows Beatrice Prior.
The novel deals with finding your identity and following your own path. Every 16-year-old person in the city has to do a test which reveals the faction you belong to. There are 5 factions: abnegation, erudite, candors, amity and dauntless, but Beatrice’s results are inconclusive, in fact she belongs to 3 different factions. People like her are called Divergents and they are considered extremely dangerous. She chooses to be part of the dauntless and there, after meeting another divergent called Four, she understands that there’s nothing wrong with her and she fights for her freedom and her rights.
I personally love this book a lot. I’ve read it a couple of times and I never get tired of it. I really like the way it’s written, it is fluent, clear and engaging. I highly recommend reading this book because it is extremely thought-provoking, it makes you stop and think about important themes, such as identity and fears.
Surely my favourite book is "Bianca come il latte, rossa come il sangue" by Alessandro D'Avenia . I read it last summer because my Italian teacher gave us some titles of books to read during the summer holidays, and we could choose two of them. I chose it because the plot really engaged me.
The novel deals with Leo, a young boy, who is in love with Beatrice, a girl his elder of a year, she has long red hair and a clear skin. Unfortunately Leo discovers that Beatrice has leukemia and he does everything to make her happy.
I really love this book because I think it deals with a sensitive argument and for me Alessandro D'avenia treated it with a huge sensibility. Also the title of the book has a wonderful meaning: white is the colour of Beatrice's disease, because leukemia causes a large number of white blood cells in the blood, and red is for the color of her hair.
From my point of view this book is extremely emotional, intense and absolutely educational.
"The Fault in Our Stars" is one of the most engaging, charismatic, poignant and breathtaking novels I have ever read. It Is a mix of emotions which first makes you laugh, and then makes you cry with laughter or sadness.
The writer, John Green, knows really well how to use words and how to manipulate the reader's mind , so I can certainly state this book is extremely thought-provoking and captivating.
The story is narrated by Hazel Grace Lancaster, the main character, a 16-year-old girl with thyroid cancer: she is forced by her parents to attend a support group where she subsequently meets and falls in love with Augustus Waters. They become very close friends and they read each other's favourite novels. Augustus surprises her with tickets to Amsterdam to meet the author of her favourite book, Peter Van Houten. While they are in Amsterdam, he confesses his love for her, but also that his cancer has returned and soon he dies. The book closes with Hazel stating that she is happy with her choice.
I love this book because it is life-like, the story isn’t a fairytale: indeed, it is extremely realistic; throughout the story, it never gets mind-numbing and it is easy-to-read .
I also love it, because of the two main characters: Hazel at the beginning was alone ,but then she finds someone special, she ends up without her love but with no regrets; Augustus is an extremely charming and charismatic boy who never leaves her, protecting her and loving her until the last breath.
My favourite book is "After" .
"After" is a novel written by Anna Todd. I chose this book because it is a romantic ,dynamic and dramatic book.
It narrates the story of Tessa, a good girl, and Hardin, a rude but sweet boy, during the college years.
Tessa is sweet, ambitious, reserved; with a reliable boyfriend waiting for her at home, and a mother who is intent on keeping her that way.
HOWEVER, she has barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin, a beatiful boy with his tousled brown hair, British accent, and tatoos. He is also rude until she finds herself alone with him in his room.
Something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites within her a passion she’s never known before.
He'll call her beautiful, then insist he isn’t the one for her and disappear again and again. Despite the reckless way he treats her, Tessa is compelled to dig deeper and find the real Hardin beneath all his lies. He pushes her away again and again, yet every time she pushes back, he only pulls her in deeper.
My favourite book is “The silver watch of mister Weeping”.
The novel deals with a paranormal family who lives in a haunted house. They can’t leave the house because of mister Weeping’s silver watch, but three guys want to help him. Will they make it?
The novel was written by Sara Bardi, an emergent writer, in 2008. It is a fantasy book and it is full of twist and turns.
This book is fascinating, exciting, adventurous, with a fluid reading and a good presentation.
My favorite book is “And then there were none”.
It is a mystery novel by English writer Agatha Christie, described by her as the most difficult of her books. It was first published in the United Kingdom on 6th November 1939.
The novel is the world’s best-selling book of all time.
The plot is quite complex: eight people arrive at a small isolated island off the Devon coast of England. Each has an invitation tailored to his or her personal circumstances such as an offer of employment or an unexpected late summer holiday. A framed copy of a nursery rhyme “ten little niggers” hangs in every room...
This is my favourite book because it is really captivating and gripping.
I like reading very much: in fact, I read a lot of books, especially romantic novels.
My favourite book is "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen.
Pride and Prejudice is the story of the Bennet sisters: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia. Their mother wants them to make good weddings, because they won't inherit their family's house, only a son can inherit it. So, when Mr. Bingley, a rich man from the north of England comes into their neighborhood, their mother tries in every way to make Mr. Bingley fall in love with one of her daughters.
Bingley actually falls in love with Jane and Jane falls in love with him. In the meantime, Mr. Darcy, Mr. Bingley's friends who spends with him his holiday, falls in love with Elizabeth. He also makes her a proposal, but she refuses. In fact, she hates him because a young soldier, Mr. Wickham, told her that Darcy has a dark past, he isn't worth trusting in. At the same time, Mr. Bingley leaves his house and goes to London abandoning Jane who finds her hopes deceived. One of Darcy's relatives tells Elisabeth that it was Darcy who convinced Mr. Bingley to leave Jane and go to London. So, Elizabeth's hate towards Darcy grows more and more. But when Elisabeth's youngest sister Lydia runs away with Mr. Wickham, Darcy finds them in London and persuades Wickham to marry Lydia by paying him a lot of money. When Elisabeth knows how Darcy helped her sister, she changes her mind, realizes she loves him and accepts his wedding proposal. Meanwhile, Bingley comes back and asks Jane to marry him, and she accepts.
I love this book because it is captivating, charismatic, charming, magnificent and emotional.
I like to think that love is still like that, romantic and sweet, almost like in fary tale...always with a happy ending.
I don't like reading very much, but when I have to do it I choose a romantic novel because I find the other types of novel quite boring, but my favourite book is one which doesn't narrate a love story.
This book is "A time for dancing" and deals with a dramatic story.
The novel was written by Davida Wills Hurwin.
The main characters of the novel are Jules and Sam, who get on well. Things will change when Jules finds out she has cancer.
My favourie character is Sam because she proves a strong person and helps her sick friend while she suffers and has issues too.
I would describe this novel as heartbreaking and touching since it ends with a miserable ending.
I read this book twice and I am sure that if I read it once again I wouldn't get bored.
I recommend it to everyone because it makes you think about essential themes: love, life and death.
My favorite book is "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Brönte.
I bought it a year ago because I thought the plot was extremely intriguing, and I would say I was right.
The story tells about a young orphan girl, Jane, who lives with her mean aunt and her spoiled cousins. At the age of 11 she goes to a strict institute to learn how to cook, embroider and behave. She is a rebel, but growing up she becomes more polite. After the school, she looks for a job as a teacher, and she finds one; she has to teach a girl, Edward Rochester’s pupil. In that house, Jane falls in love with the master and she has a lot of adventures.
All the story is something meaningful for me, because I identify and empathise with Jane, and because I found in this book many deep meaningful quotes.
I strongly recommend reading it if you are a sensitive and romantic person, and if you like love stories you’ll love it. The main themes are obviously love, resilience and forgiveness. In general, it is tought provoking, captivating and meaningful.
My favourite book is “La mappa che mi porta a te”. It was written by J.P. Monninger. It is a love story.
I like it because it is very intriguing and moving. It’s very eye-catching and when you start you can’t put it down.
I read it last year, and I finished it in one day.
The story deals with a girl who has just finished high-school. She wants to travel around Europe with her friends, but the first day she meets a young boy on a train and they fall in love, and they decide to travel together. But the young boy has a big secret, and at a certain point in the book, this secret forces both to separate. But in the end love wins.
I recommend reading this book because it is extremely tear-jerking and emotional.
"A thousand splendid suns" is a fantastic novel by Khaled Hosseini.
The book was written in 2007. The novel deals with the stories of two girls, Mariam and Laila who live in Afghanistan and after a series of tragic events are destined to meet and after a while become friends and accomplices to make their lives better together.
The plot is engaging and moving because it tells the real situation of the women of those years in Afghanistan.
The main themes of the novel are friendship, love, war, family and women's rights.
From the narrative point of view, the style is refined and the words are appropriate. In the novel there are many descriptive parts and some dialogues.
"A thousand splendid suns" is my favorite book because it is compelling, educational, intense, intriguing and thought provoking.
My favourite book is "Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone".
It is a fantasy novel by J.K. Rowling. I am in love with it because it is captivating, dynamic, entertaining, engaging and unique.
It narrates the story of Harry Potter, a young boy who has been living a normal life till his eleventh birthday.
During his birthday he received a letter from Hogwarts, the magic school.
Of course during the story there are some loyal friends like Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, and enemies like Draco Malfoy and Lord Voldemort.
My favourite carachter is Hermione because even if she is a muggle and not a wizard by birth, she is able to prove her worth. And she has got a heart of gold, like me.
Sometimes she has a low self-esteem and she is extremely worried to fail.
I strongly recommend reading this fantasy novel because it is gripping, engaging and it deals with social issues like bullying and family issues.
In my opinion, it is a five stars book.
My favourite book is "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte: it is set in a Yorkshire's heath of the 19th century.
The plot is developed around Heathcliff's story and around all the events that lead him to be a rude and grumpy man.
It is a classic novel written by Emily Brontë, a writer born in 1818 in Yorkshire. As said. it is a classic novel which deals with some universal themes like love and loss.
The reason why this is my favourite book, it is because it is extremely realistic, enthralling, tragic and fascinating.
I like the style which is used by the novelist, and the narrative technique. Love stories are also more plausible than others.
I strongly recommend this book to those people who want an easy-to-follow intriguing narrative, with a high register, to learn new words.
My favourite book is "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". It is a fantasy book.
It narrates the story of a wizard, Harry Potter, who lived with some "muggles", people without magic. He was the son of James and Lily Potter, two of the best wizards in the world, killed by Lord Voldemort. One night, a giant finds Harry and he reveals him that he's a wizard. Harry attends a school for wizards, called Hogwarts, where he meets Ron and Hermione, his best friends. Harry will live a lot of adventures that you can read in seven books written by J.K. Rowling.
I like this novel, especially because it narrates the beginning of the saga. In this book the plot is easy, but surprising and exciting.
The style is dynamic with a lot of twists. The main character, Harry Potter, is brave, friendly, loyal and a bit stubborn, like me...
My favourite book is “After”.
“After” is a romantic novel written by Anna Todd in 2014.
The story tells mainly about Theresa Young (nicknamed Tessa), an eighteen-year-old girl who is extremely polite, Hardin Scott a twenty-year-old boy recently arrived in America to start college, and their love story.
This book had a great success: at first, the book was written in English, and then translated and published in Italian in 2015, after other four books between 2015 and 2016.
In 2019, “After” came out as a movie.
I chose to talk about this book because romantoc novels are my favourite kind of books and because it is one of the most enthralling books I have ever read.
