Since the end of World War II, some European countries have begun to cooperate until the European Union was created. You might think that the EU is an economic and political union between the 27 countries that are involved; instead, it’s above all about inclusion, democracy, equality and peace.
In fact, the EU's main goals are offering freedom, security and justice, combating discrimination, promoting sustainable development and eventually economic and social cohesion. And all this is being done respecting the country's rich cultural and linguistic diversity.
Some people say politics is inefficient because bureaucracy. Some others that it’s a great cost and that the Euro is a big problem. However, the point is that the EU is constantly in progress trying to satisfy everyone, and it’s also amazingly powerful as a matter of fact.
From my point of view, the EU is working even without us being aware of that. I personally feel like I’m connected to the other European countries, even if I’m only an Italian citizen, and I am aware that being a European citizen, as well as Italian, grants benefits such as having more educational opportunities: therefore, I feel incredibly lucky about it.
In conclusion, as the motto goes: "United we stand, divided we fall! ", the EU is available to everyone and run by qualified people, that’s why for me and for all its citizens it's a safe place with convenient protection.
