For me, Europe is not only a continent where people of different nationalities live together: it is a cooperation between each Member State, where efforts are made to improve the quality of life, to ensure Peace and support in the event that a country finds itself in a difficult situation.
Firstly, the EU guarantees free access to all European citizens, thanks to the treaty of Schengen, which removed controls at the internal borders and introduced freedom of movement for all the people from member countries. The EU also offers a "student mobility programme", called "Erasmus", aimed at university students who want to live abroad, discover new cultures.
However, the free movement of citizens is sometimes detrimental to safety, because if there are few controls at the borders, everyone could enter into a state with bombs, arms. Another negative aspectis linked to political inflexibility by some leaders of the union that dictate to member states some inflexible economic policies.
Despite some negative aspects, the EU supports some vital goals like promoting Peace, its values and the well-being of its citizens; avoiding social exclusion and discrimination, respecting its richcultural and linguistic diversity. In addition to that, it insists on equal treatment for all, irrespective of nationality, sex, language, culture, profession, disability or sexual orientation.
In conclusion, I would say that if the Eu works on some currents issues that affect all Members States, we all benefit from it: because if cooperation between states is strong, there is no talk of discrimination, hatred and violence.
