The EU is an economic community composed of 27 countries: it was born in 1993 to ensure peace in these countries and to create an appropriate help for every problem.
As for me, the European Union represents a safe place which promotes Peace and Equality: indeed, people have good lives and nobody is left behind in this Union.
Firstly, I would tell something about these two important values: after the European Union was created, all member states began to promote peacefulness and stability, and this eliminated wars and conflicts between the countries. Thanks to this, in 2012 the U.E. won the Nobel Peace Prize which was given to the European Union for its good work keeping peace in the countries.
I would also emphasize the fact that all E.U. countries started promoting equality between men and women in front of the law: not by chance, equality between men and women is the basis of all European policies and the foundation of European integration.
Despite the fact that the Union is very keen to respect these values and always tries to enforce them, peace and equality don’t always reign and the Union can’t always grant people what they want: a poll conducted by the Pew Research Center shows 74% of Europeans say the EU promotes Peace, Democracy and prosperity. But many of the respondents describe Brussels as a slow and inefficient machine. In 62% of cases people say that the EU institutions do not understand the needs of citizens.
Personally, I think that it’s quite normal that Peace does not always reign over all: we have to keep in our mind that this Union is not small, and different countries with different cultures and languages are part of it. Together though, we can break down all the difficulties and live safely.
I believe that all in all, we are lucky to be part of this Community that promotes peace and equality, but at the same time I think it is paramount to keep in our mind a concept expressed perfectly by Eleanor Roosevelt:
”It’s not enough to talk about peace and equality.
You have to believe it.
And it’s not enough to believe it.
You have to work on it.”
We are stronger together, we can do it!
