Music

It has been a busy two modules in the music learning area. In Year 7, the students are looking at how music can be used to tell a story, and influence our perception of an event. In Year 8, the focus has been on students structuring their own arrangements.

The music department has also been busy rehearsing and practising for the upcoming Leigh Fest in February. Students are hard at work drumming away at breaks and lunches practising on guitar, vocals and drums to name a few, ready to showcase their talent at the Leigh Fest.

Besides the Leigh Fest, students are also participating and learning new skills in music technology club on Thursdays from 15:15-16:15 where students are using the iMacs to create their own compositions on industry standard software Logic Pro X. Besides creating music, students are also learning the theory and science behind how the equipment works in music. Students are learning maintenance activities, for example how to properly wrap a microphone cable, the science of how a microphone picks up sound and how synthesisers work.

We also have a DJing club on Tuesdays from 15:15-16:15 using state of the art new Pioneer DJ decks where students are learning and applying new DJing skills. Students are learning how to mix and use effects on the decks. Students are working towards making their own playlists and also how to DJ for public events in the future.
