It has been a busy first two modules under our new college figurehead. We welcomed our new Year 7 cohort in September as the first year of our Shakespeare cohort and they have settled in really well. After a period of uncertainty over the last few years we were pleased to reintroduce face to face information evenings with parents at the start of the year with Year 7, 8, 10 and 11 students all being invited into meet with us at the start of Module 1. Year 9 students will have an event for their option choices in Module 3. Other events that were reinstated included the remembrance day service, team building events, inter college competitions and our first Shakespeare SEN coffee morning.
Following an extensive summer of work on site our new college figurehead was launched in September with some impressive changes to the art work in the building. Brunel has been replaced by Shakespeare and the new paintwork looks fantastic along with newly decorated classrooms and new carpet.
We will celebrate our college figurehead day on our Shakespeare Day on 24th April and there will more news about the plans for that in the next newsletter.
The first of our inter-college football competitions saw both the Shakespeare Year 8 girls and boys teams win the competition with some impressive individual and team displays throughout the games. This built of the success of Shakespeare students from the summer term when we won back the Sports Day trophy. With further year groups to follow, we hope for further success in the competition.
Four Shakespeare students have supported a little local church with Christmas activities this year. Last week the girls were Santa’s Helpers and
Sunday a Christmas party for local children. This week Saturday they set up, prepared and served Christmas dinner to all those who attend the church and their families. Next Sunday they will be setting up and supporting a local children’s nativity. A huge congratulations to Mia, Amber, Daisy and Danni for the time that they have given to such an excellent cause.
Grace in SH03, took part in a challenge to help raise money for Cancer research. She did 100 football kick ups every day in Novemember and raised £330 which was over 3 times her original expected target. A massive well done to Grace.
